Exclamation Dwindleing Health? (Adderall User)

I was prescribed Adderall in late May of 2005... I was a Freshman in High School and I weighed 219 lbs. Over the Summer, I continued taking my Adderall (30 mg doses) and worked as a fence painter and went on the Atkins diet.

Anyways, now i am 15 and weigh 180.5 lbs. People do notice that I look thinner, but my friends make fun of the dark circles I have under my eyes, they look like bruises but I think they are from my lack of sleep (about 7 hours a night).

I have also noticed that i have some wierd habits that I never had before, such as sniffing, rubbing the palm of my left hand on the back of my right hand (I probably look like a crack head when I do that ), and a very short patience.

I am very concerned about my current food intake though. Since Monday I have eaten maybe between 500 to 800 calories a day ( 2 pieces of wheat toast for breakfast, skip lunch, eat a little dinner.) The obvious answer is to take in more calories: Easier said than done. When I take my adderall, even thinking about food makes me sick.

The other thing is, I have weighed 180.5 for 2 weeks and while taking in less than 1000 calories a day for 2 weeks, you would think I would have lost even more weight. What is up with that? Do I have some kind of slow metabolism, so know I have to rely on Adderall for the rest of my life so I don't become obese again, or what?

Sorry If I ranted, it's just another habit I have. Any input would be gratefully appreciated.

Perhaps you might consider, if you're on Adderall XR, switching instead to Adderall instant release and dosing just once, or one and a half times per day. Thus -- in the evenings, your appetite might return. I've also had good results with dosing after breakfast.

Tell your doctor about your new habits and short patience. These are signs that you need your meds tweaked. Your medicine is bringing out underlying 'tics', abnormal coping mechanisms and aggression.
Please, tell your doc. Teens on these meds need to be ESPECIALLY carefully monitored. It's extremely serious that you tell your doc all this. Also, ask doc why you have the dark circles under your eyes now. Not normal for them to "appear".

I am very concerned about my current food intake though. Since Monday I have eaten maybe between 500 to 800 calories a day ( 2 pieces of wheat toast for breakfast, skip lunch, eat a little dinner.) Your body has gone into "starvation mode" - holding onto every single calorie it can. You're undermining your weight loss efforts by entering this phase. Increase your nutrition intake (how about nutrition shakes or drinks?) and exercise to raise your motabolism. And tell your doc.
Most importantly - tell your doc, tell your doc, tell your doc. Right away. As in call your doc's office as soon as they open today.

Sorry If I ranted, it's just another habit I have. Any input would be gratefully appreciated.

Are you still on the Atkins diet? It isn't the healthiest way of losing weight.

Yes, stimulants can take a toll on your health...

Now im taking a guess here, but due to your age, I would guess that you drink soft drinks, not that much water, and dont take any form of multivitamin?

Other than that, 500-800 cals a day is WAY too low. Even if you dont want to eat you have to make yourself, unless you dont mind being in horrible health. I had a problem eating when I first started, and you cant just wait for it to kick back up again, sometimes it does, but for some people it doesnt. If your still eating that little, you should maybe try to drop the dosage.

Yay, I came back from hunting! No luck though...

Nah, im not on the atkin's diet anymore. I stopped that nonsense in mid August. Thanks for the feedback... I'll talk to the dopeman (or as you call him/her: The Doctor) about changeing my dosage down to 20 mg's.
