What don't I want to be would be a much shorter answer LOL. I think I majored in just about everything when I was in college. I even took one of those skill assessment tests (not sure if thats what it's called) to see what career would be right for me based on my interests but it wasn't much help.
At this rate I'm going to be retired before I pick a career.

I want to find something I can enjoy each and everyday.
Right now, I'm very interested in scientific research-concerning all the sciences. Somewhere where I don't have to work for anyone-at least for those I don't like! What have I got planned for college? I plan to major in Biology. BTW. Has anyone here experienced the Biology major's cirruculum? Is it hard? Sounds quite challenging by what I have seen. I am also at odds with myself (as well as some of you here on the forums) over the need for stimulants. Hooo....I just want to be happy. |

I haven't experienced the curriculum personally, but I understand that it is quite challenging. Nevertheless, a lot of ADDers work better under these cirumstances, so I'm sure you'll do just fine. If you're at odds with yourself over taking meds, you're probably not ready for them. When you need them, they'll be there.

sounds like fun, Fidge!
My second career I would like to be in IT. I'm pretty good at fixing things. I'm still happy with my first career, so IT education will occur when I'm bored or disliking behavior analysis.

I'm studying Primary ("elementary" ) school teaching now, i'm my 3rd year.
But when I was at high school I had lots of different things I wanted to do. This is about how the time line of thoughts went over the 5 years... - Hollywood actor - IT Technical support - Web design - Kindergarten Teacher - No idea! - Writer (e.g. author) - TV Writer - Landscape designer (briefly, VERY briefly) - Architect - Graphic artist - Industrial designer (e.g. public and community art projects, advertising, media) - Visual artist (e.g. charcoal, paint, sketches) - No idea - Teacher And to be honest, I would still be 100% happy to do any of those things (except landscape gardener!) but.. not forever. I'd probably do them for a few years. That's why my chosen "career path" is a good one and I"m happy with the decision. I could still do all those other things. Currently I'd also like to coach junior mixed soccer, be an art specialist, and also teach high school (I have to complete an extra 2 year diploma for that, but it might be 18 months if i do it at the same uni because some of the units or "subjects" are exactly the same as my current degree - i'd say about 1/3 of them , but they might make me do extra stuff then). I also COULD do a masters degree, and that could be in curriculum, special needs, or other things i don't rmember right now. I'd like to teach hs at some stage, but i wouldn't do it now. I need more 'age difference' between me and the students - i'm only 20 in 2 weeks' time (or is that 3 weeks? 24th of june). The good thing about primary school teaching is i can really do ALL of those things in the school, and anything extra e.g. buildings design and art i can do as hobbies - which I do anyway. Any advice I would give to high school students NOW is - give yourself plenty of options, follow your dreams (cliche but why do you want to do something you hate?) and in saying that - stick with school as long as you can because it's easier to get into a better job that you like that way. and research on all sorts of jobs because there are hundreds of thousands of job positions and KINDS of work that I never knew existed and am still finding out about. Research and ask adults what they know.

My son who is 13 now,his first choice has always been to be a mechanic. I think he really will do this. He has always been interested in cars, and is great working with his hands, and he can always be moving! NObody would encourage him to get any kind of desk job. He might also try to get into test driving. We have some wonderful tech schools around here. On one of those tests that you take in school, he rated well for this, and also as a police officer, which he is not as interested in at this time, but who knows?

I am adhd, 44, and am a Senior Quality Assurance Analyst (aka I try to break computer software prior to rolling it out and I try to figure out what's wrong if someone reports a problem). I love it. I have been at my job 26 years. Went from a Customer Service Rep for 20 years, to a Quality Assurance Analyst, to a Senior. I love doing different things each day. Multi tasking. Dealing with different situations and people. Never boring.
My husband is Add and 46. He's a construction laborer. He works for a small company that builds custom houses. He never does the same thing either. He is pretty much his own boss and works very quickly. He has worked for the same boss for many many years. When his boss changed jobs, he took my husband with him. His boss finally opened up his own home building business. My 13 year old son is adhd, ocd, mood disorder and learning disabled. He currently cuts grass for several people along with my husband. They load up the trailer and hit the road. They split the money they make. My son usually has more money in his pocket than me. He loves money. They do the same thing when it snows. They plow the same sidewalks that they cut grass for. I can see my son having his own business. (I am not sure who will do the paperwork or bills since we are definitely not financial genius). I can see him hiring workers while he is managing everything. My 15 year old daughter has recently been contemplating what she wants to be. She gets straight A's and is on the Dean's list in high school. I told her to make a list of pros and cons. (She's adhd but not yet medicated.) Does she want to wear a suit or dress to work? Or casual? Or jeans? Does she want to work with people? or computers or animals? Does she want to work inside or outside? Does she want to be her own boss or work for someone? Does she want to work days or nights or her own hours? Does she want to make alot of money or possibly make less but enjoy her job. After discussing all this with her, she is thinking about Alternative Medicine such as Massage Therapy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, etc... She can do it while possibly going to college. She can possibly work her own hours or have her own business. But knowing how fickle she is, she probably already changed her mind since we discussed it on Sunday. ![]() The key for someone with add/adhd is to find a job that you are passionate about. Otherwise, you will hate going to work and will probably be jumping from job to job.

Since January, I changed my mind. I went to career day, and psychology takes up too much sciences and maths... which I'm not good at. Instead, I want to be a spanish translator, because I love spanish and involves little math
