too long to wait to see DR?

Hey y'all, I am newly diagnosed ADHD by a psychologist. I made an appt today to see a psychiatrist about medication. He cannot see me untill march 28th..that is almost 4 weeks from now!! I guess he only works 3 days a week. Should I find another DR to go to? I am worried that, since this is my first time taking ADHD meds, that if this one doesn't work..it will take forever for me to get in to switch!!! Do y'all think I should find another DR? I rather get everything moving for now...not wait for nearly a month!!!

That sounds about right. All my appointments seem to be scheduled a month in advance.
If you can get in sooner, do it, but it seems unlikely....

thanks for the reply speedo! My mom thought it was fine..it only means he is in demand. But I guess I am just impatient..the diagnostic process(which we have known I have been ADHD for forever..but didn't hurt me untill I hit "the wall" in college)..and then finding your right treatment seems to take FOREVER!!!!

Less than a months wait really isn't bad at all. I remember calling places a few years ago and many of them had a 3 month wait.

At our rural community mental health center, the wait for a psychiatrist or clinical nurse specialist is about 6 weeks;give or take.

I have no idea (usually) what I'm doing until I get there;as my schedule is all done by computer.

I'm told that I'm booked into the end of March/first of April.

My psychologist mailed my report to my regular doctor and he prescribed my meds. I was in by the next week -- however, a psychiatrist is probably going to be better versed than most medical doctors on ADD medication. Waiting definately isn't a strong suite for my ADDers. Reading and learning all you can in the mean time may help facilitate your adjustment to meds. Any of the Distraction books by Hallowell and Ratey are good and so is You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Stupid or Crazy? by Ramundo and Kelly.

Take care and let us know how it goes.

I'd say that is a pretty short wait.

IIRC, my ADD psychiatrist has a long long long waiting list. And that is for people who have COMPLETED the 8 hours of Psychoeducational Testing and Assessment with a Psychologist -- their $1000 in Paperwork and Reports is all written up!!!

I am surprised you got in so fast, actually.
