Question Let’s discuss mixing Ativan, Effexor, and Adderall all at once

Adderall

“Amphetamines are thought to block the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine into the presynaptic neuron and increase the release of these monoamines into the extraneuronal space.”(RXList.com)

Based on the quote, one can easily say that Adderall increase the availability of norepinephrine and dopamine by blocking it from returning to the presynaptic neuron.

Effexor

“Inhibitors of neuronal serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake and weak inhibitors of dopamine reuptake”

Based on this quote, one can easily say that Effexor increases the availability on serotonin and norepinephrine via blocking them from returning to the presynaptic neuron. One can also say that there is a small increase in dopamine availability also due to a light blocking effect preventing a full return to the presynaptic neuron.

Ativan

Ativan is known to depress central nervous system. The Central Nervous System consists of the spinal cord and the brain.

Quick summary of all this,

Adderall – increases norepinephrine and dopamine availability

Effexor – increases norepinephrine and serotonin with a light increase of dopamine availability

Ativan – suppresses the function of the network that is the brain and spinal cord

Just looking at the Adderall and Effexor for the moment, one can say that there is a definite increase in norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin availability. But then comes the question, can blocking the reuptake of norepinephrine reach a point where too little is being absorbed back into the presynaptic neuron? If so, what happens then? Since norepinephrine is known to play a huge part on attention and impulsiveness, can one burn out by mixing Effexor and Adderall for too long of a period?

Second question brings in the additional use of Ativan with Adderall and Effexor. Since Effexor has little anti-anxiety effects at higher doses, one may be forced to seek additional therapy to reduce anxiety. The addition of a Benzodiazepine may be seen as one route of attack after other therapies proved to be ineffective or just simply due to inability to pursue some therapies due to known drug interactions. Since Ativan has a depressant effect on the functioning of the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) can one expect to see a decrease in the effectiveness of the Adderall and Effexor treatment?

This posting is just one of millions that I would make had I the time to ask everything I want to talk about. Please review my posting, do additional research, and if you can, share your opinons and experiences.

What am I popping?

-225mg Effexor XR - am (The face says it all!)
-2mg Ativan - split am & pm (Everything is ok!)
-400mg Spironolactone (Never have I drank so much water!)

If you look at the end of every explanation on these medicines you will notice at the end it always says, "we are not sure why your system reacts this way." Shocking to me but for some reason different combinations work. Again I am not a doctor so Stanford and Yale have good research in the areas you described.

About the ativan and adderall, I would assume that they would sort of reduce the effectiveness of each other. At the doses your taking it would probably be the ativan that loses its efficiency more then the adderall. Because benzos work on the GABA receptor complex, the mechanisms are much different.

I am disappointed that no one really responded to these questions. I take 150mg of Effexor Xr every 12 hours, 20mg Adderall in a.m., 5mg regular Adderall in early afternoon, and 50mg of Trazadone for sleep. I started the Adderall xr and regular today. By 10:30am it started to tapper off and by 12:30 I was a zombie. I took the regular adderall at 12:30 and my ability to focus did not return. I need to take the adderall xr (and effexor) at 6:30 in order to get me and my five year old ADHD daughter out the door in an hour for school and work. I need to also be able to focus in the evening for my school work. Is there hope??? I have take the Effexor and Trazadone for years.
