New to ADHD and Adderall

Well I am, I guess in a trial to see if it helps me. I recently went to the Doctors for some other things with the intentions of asking about ADD/ADHD. I finally got the nerve to ask about it a little more (because I am a very private person). I have always had difficulties in school/work and pretty much everyone in my family were aware of the signs but my parents never really did much about it. Now that I am 24 and have had time to read about it more (when I can force myself to sit and read) I felt it was time to do something about it.

I went through the tests and basically the Doctor said "Yea, You should do this". So I was given the choice of Stratera or Adderall and told that Adderall would more quickly let me know if it is actually helping and that Stratera would take a month or so to produce results. So, wanting to find out now I went for Adderall. I have been taking it now for 7 Days.

The first day I started I really didn't notice too much but happened to be at my In-Laws that day for Thanksgiving. I am usually a more outgoing person but everyone seemed to notice that I was a lot quieter and to myself. None of them know I am taking Adderall or anything. But after that things seemed to go better.

That Saturday I had a convention to go to. There were a lot of speeches and stuff for the day. Normally not my thing at all because I would get antsy and move a lot, Get out of my seat, Find reasons to go to the bathroom, etc. It was the first big difference that I noticed in myself. I went with the intentions of going, taking notes if needed and doing my best to pay attention. I was able to do just that. It was very surprising to see the changes that quickly. I don't think that I got up once or even moved during the whole thing.

I had asked my wife if she had noticed any differences in me too. She mentioned that a few days into it that she noticed that when she asked me to do things around the house that it would only take one time of asking. And that I had almost a interest in doing things like cleaning and house work.

Right now I am on 30mg once a day and notice that around 1 - 2 in the afternoon that it fades and that I am not as alert to things. I become more of my normal fidgety self, have a tough time remembering little things and focusing.

Anyhow, Thanks if you’re reading this. It felt good to talk about since my wife and I are the only ones that know.

Question

Sorry the message I wrote above got double posted. I found the introductions after the fact.

I've noticed ever since taking Adderall 30mg in the morning that in the evening when I get home I just feel real almost depressed like. I've never really had this before since I am newly diagnosed with AD/HD. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. Depression does run in the family. My dad has it bad and my sister has it even worse. Not sure if this is just some side effect or just my brain getting use to it.

Thanks,

Hey Branden- That happened to me also a little. But I wouldn't describe it as depression, just sort of a let down. Like when something good is over. Definitlely report that to your doc. Report everything, you're paying for it and in the beginning, they need to know as much as possible since they really have to play around with the dosages. what it could also be is that you are becoming aware of and appreciating the differences in life when on meds and when off. Good Luck.

Thanks FlakeyGirl. You know I think your right It is more of a let down then a depression thing. But last night I had a better time coming down. I was a lot more there and with it, then quiet and down. My wife had noticed to from when I came home to work. Her biggest fear is that I am going to be down and quiet when the Adderall wears off. She is asking me a lot how I feel so that is good. She has been pretty understanding so far and that’s good for me.

Thank you very much for your input I really appreciate it.

No problem! My husband is glad when I am quiet, lol

You may also just be really tired from doing more physically and mentally that you are used to doing. How are you sleeping? Like a baby, I'd guess.

Not bad. I would Say I am getting a normal nights sleep. I had one night that the slightest thing would wake me for a few minutes. But other then that I was good. I guess thats because I am on Normal Adderall and not XR so by the time 9-10 rolls around I am well off of it.
