Do I have ADD

Hi, I hope this is the right place to post this

I have been reading a bit about ADD and it seems to discribe me and my problems fairly well.

I am at university, i can look at the work online so not concentrating in lectures is not a problem but i find it hard to follow a conversation, which makes it hard to get to know people.
my room is a tip (i've just hoverd it because it started to give me a rash which is really itchy.) I'm never on time for anything and I forget most things.I'm also the slowest person I know(mentally). Does this sound like ADD? I have also been diagnosed with dislexia

anyway I was wondering how best to get it diagnosed, and what the treatment is like and how effective it is???

If you've been reading the symptoms of ADD, and you find yourself going "oh that's so me" it's likely you do have it. The other thing is that these symptoms have been always there. In other words, you didn't just "start" this problem in the last year, or last few years.

Best way to get diagnosed? You have to see a medical professional who specializes in ADD. That's very important. For example, my dr. is a psycharitist (sp?) but he knows ADD. It's not the most easiest thing to diagnose, and it looks like so many things.

As for treatment... I take medication and it's very effective. I am able to concentrate, focus my attention long enough to get things done. I also find that ideas flow much easier when I'm on my medication than when I'm not.

But be warned: Medication just fixes the concentration problem. It doesn't change the fact that you do need to manage your ADD. It doesn't change the fact that it takes you longer to process information, so you need to ask for special testing accomodation, extensions on papers etc.

Good luck!

Right well, I will be seeing the Dr. on Monday, we were describing the meds and he had told me that the meds might not allow you to manage your ADD or ADHD, you will have to do that. But while you are on the meds, you concentrate more, which would allow you to manage the ADD or ADHD a lot easier.

That's just my two cents. I will seeing what will be happening on Monday, so I will definitely let you all know! But I have read up about certain medications and they really do help. I have trouble concentrating and I am not that motivated sometimes, but the Psychiatrist had told me that there are plenty of meds out there that are going to help me and that I will be able to function normally again, which is a great sign, because that made me feel very very happy! =)

Anyhow, talk to you all soon!

Best Regards
