length of time

how long does it take for Dexedrine to start working? When I used to take Adderall, I would get a racing heart when I would come down. Does anyone know why this would have been? No racing heart while it was working - only when it left the system. So far Dexedrine does not effect my heart at all...I dont feel a thing. LOL

Re: length of time

Dexedrine only has Dextroamphetamine (5 times more potent to the Central Nervous System than Levoamphetamine). Adderall is 75% Dextroamphetamine and 25% Levoamphetamine. Levoamphetamine primarily affects the Periphrial (sp)? Nervous system (the heart, breathing rate, etc). Yeah I had that with adderall too but It went away after several years, used to spend many a night watching the sun rise

Re: length of time

Also Give dexedrine a few days to tell if it is working. One thing I noticed when switching between Adderall and Dexedrine containing medications is that you become so used to the "Feeling" of the intense periphrial stimulation from adderall (Faster heart rate, breathing rate, muscle tightning, Intense Alertness) that you can't really differentiate it from Dextroamphetamine (some people can, I can't and you seem to be like me from what you're describing). So give it 4-5 days before you really make an informed decision on if it's the right choice. It took me 3-4 days before I could tell that the 100mg of Vyvanse I was taking was actualy working or not, hell I'd eat 100mg and go to sleep after it kicked in!

PS: For me Adderall was like getting hit with a shotgun blast of energy to the face. Dexedrine was like a smooth uprising and steady platue effect that increased my focus and energy but didn't help my memory/concentration/motivation the way adderall did but this differes for every individual greatly. Yes I know my spelling sucks!

Re: length of time

I haven't taken Adderall but perhaps someday I will need to switch meds up a bit. For now Dex does the same thing to me when it's wearing off....rapid heartbeat, lump in my throat and almost feels like it's hard to breathe but it isn't...This evening I go to my GP for my first 1 month follow up. (I was diagnosed a month ago) and to discuss my meds etc. I will be bringing this up with him, as well as asking for something to help me stay asleep. I have no trouble falling asleep but wake up around 3am every morning, raring to go...NOT GOOD.

Re: length of time

Dexedrine doesn't give me the jolts like Adderall did. I think that is a good thing. Strange that the Adderall only did that when leaving your system. Usually happens when it enters your system. Did you talk to your doctor about that? Not feeling a thing as far as side effects are concerned is a good thing.

Dr: let me wash my hands before I increase your Adderall.

Re: length of time

i noticed dexedrine right off, the way it stimulates me makes it feel 50% stronger than Adderall, but people are different also.

Re: length of time

Probably the levo-amphetamine, it causes PNS stress. Dexedrine is a lot more potent than adderall its just sometimes people associate the physical stress they go through with adderall as the effects of the drugs and really its not. They're unwanted side effects.
