Bad if the IR stops working under three hours after consumption???

I reccognized it a while ago... but it doesn't work as long as it's supposed to for concentration. So I have to work fast. And plus it takes half an hour to start, so it only works for I guess about 2.5 hours or less than that. I doubt the dose is too low, this happens from 20 mg. Does this mean something...?

Some people just metabolize it fast. Or could be a food interaction (changing the PH of your stomach).

I took the Barr generic 10mg and they were only lasting me 2.5-3hrs. :P Fine when I had short classes but frustrating when I'd start getting the rebound headach so soon after taking it! I partially think the pills themselves were to blame. They didn't seem very well pressed and broke down really quickly when I was trying to swallow them.

I broke 'em in half and took some every couple of hours and that worked ok but was annoying. Eventually I just switched meds. Dexedrine seems to last just as it should for me.

If you don't wanna hafta take your meds to frequently, I'd look into an extended release med like Adderall XR (still doesn't last long for many people though) or Vyvanse.

Yeah, I could just be a fast metabolizer. Maybe that's why I never throw up or anything in situations other people would. The food's already gone or something. Yeah, I'll take to my doc about switching to XR instead. The insurance has to cover XR since there's no generic, right?

There's no generic of Adderall XR yet but I think the patent runs out this year so that may change soon.
There's also no generic of Vyvanse or Concerta. I think there is at least one verson of XR mph available but that or Concerta would be quite a switch from Adderall and wouldn't be my first choice if Adderall works well but just doesn't last long enough.

The only generic XR amphetamine I know of is Dexedrine spansules.

Yeah, I'd rather there be no generic since the insurance has to cover brand names with no generic. So I'd prefer to switch to XR for that reason I guess. It'll still probably cost a bit more, but not an outragous amount like uninsured IR.

No it DOES cover generic meds, but it won't cover the brand name unless there's no generic alternative. I think.

Mine will cover it but charges more for "non-preferred" meds. So the copay is higher but I still don't hafta pay full price.

Ah. That sounds better. You use IR though, right? You'd probably have a regular copay for XR.

I use Dexedrine IR now. I pay a $10 generic med copay. When I took Adderall it was the same, generic IR and $10.
If I took Adderall XR or Vyvanse or another name-brand it'd be $20 like my Lamictal is. Unless they decided it was "unpreferred" in which case it's be $40. :P

The XR version is just like taking 2 IR doses 4 hours apart. So you want to pick a dosage that lasts 4 full hours before the second kicks in. Adderall absorbtion is significantly effected by PH so avoid foods that give you indigestion or foods high in citric acid etc within 1 hour of taking it.

I have a fast metabolism and my Adderall IR only lasts about 2.5-3 hours too. I only take 5mg, but I'm also small (like 5'2" 100 lbs. small), so 20mg probably isn't that much for most people.

Actually, with XR, the PH is a significant factor in when the second dose releases and how it is absorbed as well. Doesn't last the full 4/4 for everyone. Seems most people get a bit less out of it and many end up taking it twice a day anyway.

I liked to tak 5mg at a time too and would take anything fom 5-5 to 10-5-5 or 5-5-5-5 depending on the day. Heck, some days I only took it once for class. I liked to take small doses at a time because they were effective enough and I was able to take them every 2-3hrs to stay steady all day rather than just a couple larger ones and have the headachey downtime between doses or hafta take more than I really needed to just because it wore off too fast.
And I'm definitely not 100lbs. Lol. It seems stimulant med doses are not directly proportional to weight at all.
