Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

Stimulants cause oral motions- if you've ever seen anyone on too much of any kind of stimulant they are normally clicking or grinding their teeth or some kind of mouth activity. If you are experiencing that I would suggest you lower your dose, at least sightly, and if the dose you are at is the only one that works best for you then lower it and move slowly up to the dose that works for you (going up only 5 mg a week till you reach optimum dose).
I personally am a very twitchy person (due to my ADHD) when I am NOT on meds, and I had/have a mouth twitch that often bothers anyone around me when I am not medicated (I void the air from my mouth and bite down, often biting on my cheeks and the outsides of my tongue, then I breath in air and do it again, over and over and over) and try as I might I cannot stop this action when I am not medicated- it's as natural and subconcious a my leg twitching and my fingerdrumming (and everything else I do that irritates my cubicle neighbors).
When I have my appropriate Adderall dose (I don't use XR, I metabolize it too fast and it does't work, plus there's no generic so it's more expensive) I have less if any occurrance of this activity (as well as limited to no leg shaking or fingerdrumming). SO just work with your dose till it works for you and you should be fine.

Good luck!

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

Do any of you that do this worry that you might cause permanent damage to your mouth? As well as rubbing my tongue against my bottom teeth, I also find myself kind of sucking on my teeth, creating a suction pull between my tongue and the spaces between the teeth. I am anxious that I might actually be slowly pulling my teeth out. I asked my dentist and he just seemed kind of weirded out and didn't really answer my question.

I guess I am worried partly because I know that people who abuse stimulants sometimes have no teeth, and I am worried that this might be why. But maybe it's just because they have poor nutrition?

Anyone know if you can actually lose a tooth doing this?

Such a bizarre side-effect! All I want to eat on Adderall are my own teeth!

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

I do this too! I rub my tongue against my bottom teeth (I have a permanent retainer on the bottom teeth so I rub it against that). I always have sores on my tongue and inner mouth. They are very painful!!

I also pick at my fingers and toes - it's like the insides of my pointer fingers right against my fingernails and the insides of my big toes against the toenails always itch or something - it's weird. But I always have to somehow touch them or rub them.

I wish I could stop

Unhappy Overdose on Adderall... PLEASE HELP!!

I apologize if i posted in the wrong area... This is my first time even viewing this site.

Before i start... I just want to say i am VERY sorry to have abused this drug... beyond the fact that i am very scared right now (and getting what i deserve) i know now that there are MANY of you out there who TRULY need this medication to help you live normally. I apologize for abusing your drug, i truly feel sorry for this. I am NOT a druggie, i have never even smoked anything a day in my life, i am not on prescription meds... i simply made a very VERY bad mistake and am desperately seeking help!!

Background Info: I do NOT have add or adhd, i have chronic depression and ocd, but have never been treated for them.

Yesterday... about 6:00 pm, i took two Adderall XR, the bottle is marked 15mg. I didnt feel anything, i was told i was supposed to feel "high", i felt NOTHING, so about an hour later, i took 3 more. An hour later... still nothing, four more.

Around 10:00pm last night, i began to feel very hyper. I am a VERY calm, quiet, sleepy person. This was extremely weird to me. I did not feel "high" but i felt hyper and i was talking alot and very FAST!

The hours begin to run together after that... sometime between 10-2 i got up to use the restroom and blacked out...for about four seconds, and then i was fine.

During the night, until about 9am, (im guessing) my heart started beating very rapidly, and very HARD. breathing became VERY difficult, i was really hot (and AC was on) , my thoughts were running together at a million miles a minute, everytime i get up to use restroom i experience four second blackout. My OCD was increased dramatically, i cannot focus on anything, but for some reason, i can focus intently on my rituals from OCD.

As the morning progressed, i began to feel better. Still very sick, but MUCH better. I've been up all night and all morning with anxiety. Thankfully, my heart has calmed down. Breathing is a TAD bit easier (still very hard and unnormal) , but i still feel sick to my stomach (very, VERY, very nauseous).

I have been reading overdose stories about seizures and migranes and comas and death when it finally wears off (WHENEVER THAT WILL BE!), as well as fainting and other things.

My symptoms are still very bad, but ARE getting better. I CANNOT (CANNOT) go to the doctors.

Is there ANYTHING, i can do right now? Any idea at ALL when it will wear off?? When i can FINALLY sleep? Not feel nauseous? Am i REALLY going to DIE, or was this just the worst mistake of my life, and something to NEVER, NEVER do again?

I am already EXTREMELY scared, understand the seriousness and LEARNED MY LESSON, so please dont be too harsh. I am really looking for help... We all make mistakes... Please dont be too harsh.

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

Glad this was posted as I was getting concerned the first week and a half I started on Adderall. I already knew that I would probably have oral motions but was unprepared for how much I grinded my teeth during that first week and a half. It was a large problem and I almost stopped taking Addies. I couldn't stop grinding, during the day. Jaw was so tight, couldn't talk correctly at work. Thankfully it seemed to die down around the 2/3 week.

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

Odd here since I've had ticks and twitches on again and off most my life and they went away when I stopped drinking so many caffiene laden beverages. Might seem trivial but jsut try to stop drinking coffe for ten days and you'll see the difference, you'll be miserable for those 10 then after that alls good. I'll have maybe one or two cups a day now and can feel the effect of the caffine immediately.

And as far as the compulsive mannerisims, I've had plenty over the years, differentones, I ten d to stop doing one only to replace it with wnother, but this is when I wasn't doing any meds. Seem pretty good so far with all the above except for a little added anxiety..taking 150 mg lamotrigine for mood stabilazer and 25 mg adderall. Thinking of upping my lamotrigine and see if it takes the hard edge off of the adderall. Feeling pretty good over all..slightly more focused but just started the adderal..we'll see.

Yes, I do the same thing -- it seems also that I do it moreso when the meds are wearing off -- I also get dry mouth -- the best products are Biotene -- they have mouthwash, toothpaste, mouth gel and gum. The gum is sometimes behind the pharmacy counter -- not sure why. It's been a lifesaver. When I do get the sores the mouthwash helps a lot. It's actually the best tasting mouthwash I've ever tried!

Wow! Glad I saw this! I've been doing this for sometime now. Maybe I should talk to the doctor about my dosage....

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

Thanks for posting this, it's been driving me crazy, so at least I know it's not just me. I always have to tell people I bit my tongue or something to explain why I'm wincing when I talk. . .this is seriously painful, more or less constantly . . .however, I feel like my med dosage is about right in every other respect, so I was wondering, has anyone found anything other than adjusting dosage that works at all?

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

I hate that I can't stop rubbing on bottom tooth that moved a bit after I got off my retainer. I fear I may have to get braces again on the bottom just for that one tooth. it bugs me so.

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

I recently just started taking adderall for adult adhd and i have noticed that i do the exact same thing, and i legit thought i was crazy and i just didn't know that this was a more popular side effect of the meds. I am only on 15 mg extended release but i am also overweight, i was not a gum chewer before but now that i am on this, i go thru almost a pack of gum a day, and when i take my adderall i become a chain smoker, and i hate it. while i love the weight loss associated with me taking adderall i hate how sore my tongue is at the end of the day. what sucks is that i have to either deal with a sore tongue or not losing as much weight with out it.

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

I've recently been diagnosed with adult adhd and started adderall, although i've been diagnosed and currently treated for panic, anxiety, depression and bi-polar disorder... i do the same thing... i also feel like i've almost lost the feeling in the tip of my tongue... i sometimes get the occasional enlarged papillae (inflamed or enlarged taste bud).....i just try to make myself aware... and just stop myself from doing it..... just gotta break the habit i guess... or stop drinking so many beverage with caffeine!

Re: Help with a side effect - constantly rubbing the tongue on the back of the teeth

I've had a kind of nervous "tic" for a while. Nothing too serious but it definitely annoys me. I had it before I started Adderall about 2 weeks ago but the Adderall has kinda made it worse. Is the only real way to get rid of a "tic" is to stop medication use?
