One of the key struggles in my life with ADD is having developed bad habits that stimulate me. ie: Food, computers, conflicts with people...
I want to compile a reminder list of things that are stimulating, that can get the brain going, without developing other problems... Like: -Playing music -Watching comedy (laughing) -Jogging Anyone else got ideas? Let's make a big list, so we can find healthier alternatives to negative stimulating behaviours...

Re: Healthy Forms of Stimulation
Really? Weight lifting? I find that one sooooo boring. How do you get stimulated from it? Maybe you enjoy it.

Yeah. That biting thing. I eat/crack scotch mints until the insides of my cheeks bleed. I'm not sure, though, that's a good habit...

Gogogo:
Wow, when you put it that way, weight lifting sounds exilerating! I like how you make it seem interesting, rather than the babble that goes on in my head: "Ugh, this is boring, is it over yet? Up, down, ok, I've done this already, when can this stop....?" You make it sound like an art, like something carefully sculpted with detail... Hmm... can you describe exercise? LOL!!!

Re: Healthy Forms of Stimulation
- Going for a jog (cardio/endurance exercises)
- Weight lifting (strength exercises) - Listening to music while you do stuff and singing or 'bopping' along - Cooking your own elaborate, interesting meals. - Learning about everything. I'd suggest simply typing something you're interested in into wikipedia and let it fly. You start at the politics surrounding the death of Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna of Russia and 3 hours later you're reading about the unusual genetic homogeneity of Iceland. - Going drinking with mates. Every second week it is a great cleansing aide as you just have random unadulterated fun with good friends and hopefully forget about life for the night. - Watching (British) comedy! - Helping people with mathematics problems. I'm a maths tutor, but I also help some students on forums on the internet. Fulfilling and stimulating! Things which I like to avoid: - Arguing with people on the internet. You get some sort of adrenaline rush but it's just such a totally worthless and soul-sucking experience in general it's not worth it. - Um... arguing with people in real life. As above minus the adrenaline rush. - Going a day without exercise. - Procrastination *le sigh*

Re: Healthy Forms of Stimulation
Another one for weight lifting. For me personally it's a test of my inner strength as well as physical. Plus it gives me a goal to push toward, adding more weight over time, eventually benching more than I weigh is exciting (to me anyways). Being able to change it up day after day with different routines keeps it interesting, it's never the same thing for long.
Second thing is general handywork, building stone walls, construction, carpentry, mechanical work on my car, riding my motorcycle help get me going as well. |

Re: Healthy Forms of Stimulation
lots of good things that you can do for yourself, but ive tried lots but when it comes down to it, being super fit is in itself good, as physical things require less motivation as its so easy to lift heavy objects for instance, but when im faced with having to do my company acccounts i dont think any of it would make a significant effect.
