Socializing med for sum1 with autism
The euphoria that i got when i took adderall removed the anxiety and i became really social. People were more friendly and more interested in me once i made things not uncomfortable by socializing more.
I think that i have autism because of how i stutter ocassionally and how i am clueless in public situations, unknowing what to say or constantly feeling tense with someone in one on one situation or a large group in general. The euphoria basically made me a lot more social because i could see the norms of socializing. The adderall doesnt help me with this anymore because of how the euphoria lasts 1 day for me after taking a break from the meds for a while. Being on the meds for the past 3 months now, i notice that even still i don't have too much of an interest in socializing and was wondering how people manage to socialize soo much. Is there a particular med that makes you socialize more often? Like an anxiety med in particular? People always tell me to 'loosen up' and i never cud. Adderall helps, but not with the anxiety. I try to be more social, but i never say the right things because of how stupid i sound when anxiety is in the way, making everything tense between me and my peers. Even with my close friends as well. I hate not being with people or not being able to properly socialize with them. Anyone know of a med that can really brighten up a person with autism, anxiety and add? |

Re: Socializing med for sum1 with autism
Some autistics (and some parents of autistic children) report being a little more sociable while on risperdal. As far as I know there is no medication that can give you social skills, but I can sure understand that a medication can make you feel more like being social. In any case, the only med approved for treating autism is risperdal and yes some people report being more social, or rather, less antisocial, while on it.

Re: Socializing med for sum1 with autism
Well the crazy euphoria that i got the other day showed me how i actually have decent social skills because of how many people i cud really interact with without it seeming awkward at all. Seriously, its like a new whole side of me that came up with the tense old self leaving behind. I also became a lot more articulate with it, like my tone, along with my words instantly came into mind perfectly...like fitting in the perfect piece for a jigsaw puzzle.
Imma try asking for risperidone, but im hearing how klonopine is another good anti-anxiety med that has really changed lives for the better in some people socially. |

Re: Socializing med for sum1 with autism
MAybe it is just anxiety and in that case a more appropriate medication might be an SSRI like paxil or zoloft. My advice is that you talk to your doctor about it. If you are autistic or even a little autistic, that would explain poor social skills. But if you really do have social skills but just don't socialize, then that is something else. For this reason I suggest that you talk to your doctor about it.

Re: Socializing med for sum1 with autism
Yeah i understand. I am planning to talk to my doctor about it, but i was just wondering if u guys had any input about this despite it not coming from a doctor. Its just that i got really frustrated on the adderall about how my life is a screwup.
One thing to note though, it takes me a while to process something that someone says verbally. Examples in my life:Working at a retail store, trying to sell something to the customer....i have to rephrase the whole question that they asked me back to them. Again in school i notice this like in my classes when my teacher is giving a lecture, i have to really register it in my brain to see what makes sense about what he/she just said and by the time i finish figuring it out, i missed out on a variety of other important details. Reading comprehension is a bad deal 4 me along with the mathematical section of the SAT...im trying to think outside the box as hard as a i can even with the pills, but nothing surfaces. Just curious if u guys wud know anything related to this issue. |

Re: Socializing med for sum1 with autism
There's lots of meds that might help, including mood stabilizers, which might help with other autism problems. You'll just have to go through them and try them out until one works well for you.
The nonprocessing part seems attentional - that should go away while on adderal. If not, you might need a higher dose, but if it's not attentional it probably won't help at all. There are a lot of supplements that work particularly well for autism. Fish oil and idebenone are two of the big ones, but I seem to recall seeing a bunch of others. One of my friends is a tad autistic and fish oil really helps her. |
