Newly Diagnosed (Concerta/Wellbutrin)

Hi, I'm new here and newly diagnosed ADD and mildly depressed.

I just started taking Concerta 36mg yesterday and today I started the Wellbutrin 100mg with the Concerta.

Well, yesterday wasn't really a good experience overall with the Concerta. At first I felt like I took a percocet which is ok, I kinda like that feeling anyway, but then after a few hours I felt kinda in a haze. I felt a bit slower than usual. By the end of the day my head was having this constant mild ache mostly in the back and temple area. Wasn't too bad but was more annoying than any thing. I also didn't feel my focus, attention or anything else improve. Also at the end of the day I really felt like crap. It was actually the feeling I thought depression would feel like. But I never felt that feeling before. I felt really down and confused.

Maybe since it's the first day my body wasn't used to it? A fellow member on another thread (Mark) stated it maybe to high of a dose for me.

Anyway, I'm taking notes everyday so I can show my doc. He was actually concerned about the Concerta. He wanted me to pay close attention to that one. Maybe he thought it wouldn't work well enough or maybe he was concerned himself with the dosage. So in a week I will reevaluate whether it is working or not.

Does anyone know how fast the Wellbutrin should work or does that take more time?

thanks

Both work fairly quickly. The Concerta is a stimulant (methylphenidate) and it works pretty much instantly (30 min). Concerta is time release over about 12 hours. When it wears off you may feel "down", this is fairly common. I don't know if you are taking too much, the best theraputic level is about 1mg/kg/day, so a 36mg pill once a day is about right for a 36kg person (80lbs). I suspect you may not be taking enough concerta to really be seeing a benefit yet - your Dr is likely taking it slow and ramping the dosage up.
Welbutrin works fairly quickly, within a week or two of taking it. It has stimulant effects to so it may "energize" you and sometimes effect your sleep. 100mg is a fairly light dose of it too, so don't expect to feel hugely different at first. It is a good idea to ramp up and ramp down the dosages of welbutrin, which I'm sure is what your Dr is doing.
Good luck,
Regards,
Greg

I don't have an answer for you, but I just dtarted on concerta a and Wellbutrin too. I feel really weighed down and slow. My hyperactivity is gone and impulsiveness is gone, but I am really tired. Today I am not going to take the Wellbutrin because I think that is what's causing the drugged feeling. So by the end of the day I should know whats doing what.
So far I don't like it!

Joo Joo are you still taking Concerta and Wellbutrin? I was wondering how its working out for you?

I started taking wellbutrin again for the last couple of days and I think I am starting to like it.

I don't think the Concerta is doing anything for me besides helping to take away the hyperactivity. My concentration isn't getting any better though. Maybe I need a higher dose.

I just switched to Dexedrine today and I am still on the Wellbutrin.

The Concerta wasn't doing it for me. I think the Wellbutrin is starting to work, not sure.
