Yes, I'm Trying is on a distinguished road
Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

Please don't call me "anti-social" because I'm sometimes reserved, inattentive, or awkward - that suggests I hate being around others or am somehow hostile towards society. Neither is even close to true.

Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

Don't tell me I lack emotions because I don't find the same things sad as you do.

Don't mistake my need to constantly busy as an invitation to do favors for you.

Don't take it personally when I don't call you enough.

Don't try to start a conversation with me when I'm hyperfocused and in the middle of a project. I will have a hard time listening and then feel guilty, and you will be mad as well.

DO try to keep in touch with me, even if I don't always initiate the conversation.

DO praise my strong points more than pointing out my weaknesses.

DO expect me to be accountable for my mistakes, I will expect you to be accountable for yours as well.

Don't be surprised when I'm watching a movie for the fifth time and still don't know how it ends.

To my supervisors at work: don't laugh or smile when I tell you that I have severe ADHD.It makes me dislike and distrust you right away
Also if I really put in the effort you're damn right I could out perform every other person in this building. Do I want to do that? Yes I do.Is it worth the mental exhaustion? Not sure

Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

DON'T: Make assumptions.

1. NO, I'm not lying saying I have ADD so I can get "drugs" or "high".
2. NO, I don't do drugs.
3. NO, I'm not lazy
4. NO, I'm not stupid or slow, don't treat me like I am. My IQ is 151. I forget things, I can still understand English.
5. NO, I'm not crazy.
6. NO, my meds don't give me an "edge" over everyone else, they allow me to function like everyone else.
7. and NO, I'm not a loser. As I've been told 1000x.

Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

Don't tell me ''everyone has problems adhd is nothing'
Don't tell me ''lots of people can't focus what makes your life harder''...i beg you to spend a day in my shoes and tell me that again''
Don't look at me in disgust because i forgot to tidy my house or I don't share the same materialistic priorities as you..for me the fact that i made it through a day unscathed is success
Don't tell me that adhd isnt real and that doctors are conspiring against me to make money seriously...F*** off
Do accept me as i am, im a straightforward caring and loving person just like you, give me a chance to blossom and you'll soon see
Do understand that what you may see as a simple 30 minute task can take me a day and i break a little more inside when i realise how weak i am and that this is how its going to be
Do realise that somedays your idea of fun is my idea of hell, please dont expect me to sit through a movie night and not get fidgety not start getting distracted most importantly please don't take offense and criticise me for it
Please DONT call my dyspraxia Dyslexia...
Please DONT call me a pill popper/ junkie or tell me that eastern medicine and acupuncture will cure me...are you out of your f*ing mind....

Rant over...sorry guys :/

whoa whoa whoa whoa is dyspraxia a symptom of ADHD? because I was diagnosed with Dyslexia when I was a little kid, because I couldnt write or read (in 5th grade I could read at a first grade level) because sweet baby jesus that would explain a lot, I have never really though I was dyslexic, I just sucked at reading, I never got words mixed up or whatever, I just couldnt focus on one spot and stay there.

Re: Dos and Don't with an AD/HDer

No dyspraxia is a whole other neuro diverse condition to adhd though it can and is more likely to occur in people with other things like adhd, tourettes, dyslexia, aspergers etc
