I was officially diagnosed with ADHD last week after visiting my new psychiatrist. I was prescribed 30mg of Vyvanse, and began taking it the next day (Friday).
I experienced some common symptoms, such as stomachache, headache, and hyperactivity. Then later I experienced a "crash," in which I was depressed, irritable, and tired. I gradually did not feel the "extremes" like I had, but I am noticing some other very disturbing symptoms. The first time that I took it, my pupils became a bit dilated, and were seeming to react randomly even when the light stayed the same. I also noticed that my left pupil was bigger than my right. Since then, my pupils have still been getting bigger and bigger with every day that I take it. They do not respond to light like they should. My mind is especially foggy late in the day, almost zombie-ish, and my heart races a bit at times. I want to know what you think of this, and maybe give me some advice about what I should do. Thanks! |

Seriously, though. I don't think stims are supposed to effect your eyes like that, at the proper dose. Your doc needs to be told, for sure. |

Re: Zombie with Huge Pupils
Actually, you were right! It was too high!
My doctor told me to take one pill, open it, and pour the contents into six ounces of water. Then in the morning, I drink three ounces of the water, and the rest the next day. Afterwards, my pupils started getting better (I hope), and I'm not feeling as bad as I did. I'm still tired and get frequent headaches, though, but that could be because of the high dosage that I was taking before. My dad is taking a similar medication, and his eyes were doing the exact same thing as mine! Why is this making both of our left pupils bigger? Does he need to lower his dosage as well? Sorry about freaking out and asking so many dumb questions... Edit: Was there another thread on this? Because if there is, I feel SOOO stupid... Last edited by E.R.Walker; 04-08-09 at 10:14 PM.. Re: Zombie with Huge Pupils
Mydriasis (big pupils) is a side-effect of stims causing a flood of norepinephrine in your system. It still sounds like you're taking too much.
The anisocoria (asymmetrical pupil dilation) though is probably harmless (considering your Dad is responding the same). If it worries you, and only happens when you take your meds, and you're not suffering other vision issues, then I wouldn't be concerned, but tell your doctor anyhow.

Re: Zombie with Huge Pupils
My husband tried Vyvanse and had similar problems, particularly the zombie feeling. Interestingly, my son (16) takes Vyvanse and it works fine for him.
My husband now takes Focalin. It is my understanding from our family psychiatist that most meds works differently for each individual. First, you have the med type then you have to work out the correct dosage. No need to feel dumb. That's exactly why these forums are so wonderful to have. |
