Hey there,

Gotta say I love this site. Been reading some of the posts for a few days and getting great info.

Was just diagnosed with ADHD. Took awhile for it to sink in. But after reading some posts. Yes, I believe it, and here I thought there was something wrong with me and kept it all to myself for the past 20 something years.

My first Question (one of many I am sure):

I am on 18mg of Concentra, take it in the morning, suppose to increase to 36mg in 10 days. When will I start to feel any effects from it? Does it take a week to get into your system? What should I be feeling like? I'm also on Effexor and I remember that took a few weeks to kick in.

I take methylphenidate(the active ingredient in concerta) and used to take concerta.
To the best of my knowledge(i'm not a dr.) Its not something that needs to build up in your system to take effect, although you can get more used to it, and some side effects can subside after a while.

My guess would be that if you're not noticing anything from your current dose, its probably too low, and you'll notice it working once you increase to the 36 mg in ten days. 18mg a day of methylphenidate(in the form of concerta in your case) is not a tiny dose, in my experience, but for comparison, I take 60 mg of immediate release methylphenidate a day, 15 mg 4x a day. That means that I need almost the amount you take spread throughout the day, every two hours.(my doses is on the high end, however)

I take methlyin IR, but was having issues with it not lasting long enough. So my doc let me try Concert 18mg for a week. I couldn't tell I had taken anything! It was nothing like the IR. Of course I was taking 20mg 2X's a day so don't know if it was enough?
