trichotillomania?
Hi, My name Is Shannon.
I am just new to this web site, a little confused as to how it works. Not even sure what I am posting this in at the moment Anywho...I have a daughter who is twelve, she was diagnosed with Touretts Syndrome last year. It was quite devastating since she already has Diabetes, celiac disease, and ADD. This last year we have noticed she pulled out all of her eye lashes then noticed clumps of hair (in the bathroom usually) We question her, and she denies it. during some research on the internet, we came across "trichotillomania". When reading it, it sounded just like our daughter. This is the first time on this site, and I think I had read somewhere that someone felt they may have lost their hair possibly from the ADD drugs. When reading about trichotillomania, It says it is a neurological disease like Tourettts syndrome. People feel the urge to pull out hair. Sort of like the same urge to twitch with TS. Has anyone heard of this? I havent found a posting of this sort on ADDforums. Please help. A very confused and scared mom:cry: |

Info I found on the condition.
http://www.vh.org/adult/patient/psyc...chotillomania/ This one is on TS, and it's technical, designed for Drs to read. Very good however, for printing off and giving to your Dr if he/she doesn't know how to diagnose and treat the condition. Reputable source - U of Iowa (You have to keep track of a lot of abreviations if you want to understand it!) http://www.vh.org/adult/provider/psychiatry/CPS/42.html I gather all of these conditions - ADHD, TS and trichotillomania are related to one another. I know a fair number of people with ADHD - myself included - and all seem to have something else comorbid with the ADHD - some more than others, of course. Best of luck, Greg
