Adderall + Allergy medication?

Really struggling with allergies this spring. (First time struggling this bad - ever?!?) I'm on Adderall 25mg, Lamactil 200mg, Seroquel 200mg and an occasional Ambien 12mg.

I'm taking generic Claritin for allergies. Pdoc seemed a little concerned about the claritin but didn't tell me to quit.

So far the only differences I've noticed is extreme dry mouth and a more pronounced crash when the Adderall wears off. Just about ever one of my meds cause dehydration/dry mouth.

Any one else have allergies and taking Adderall? What allergy meds coexists best with Adderall?

Re: Adderall + Allergy medication?

You mainly want to avoid anything with a decongestant, which is sometimes combined with allergy medicines. So beware of anything with pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine.

Other than that, there shouldn't be any health concerns with regular allergy medicines, which are either antihistamines (Zyrtec/Ceterizine, Claritin/Loratadine, etc) or leukotriene inhibitors (Singulair). However, special formulatins like Zyrtec-D contain a decongestant.

I take Zyrtec daily and don't notice any adverse effects.

Re: Adderall + Allergy medication?

I'm taking nasacort aq, zyrtec-D, lexapro, adderall xr, and lunesta to sleep and I'm OK. I do have to drink a ton of water as adderall and any antihistamine with pseudoephedrine tends to dry me out a lot. Here is a good drug interaction checker. It's not the final word so also ask your doctor. That's what they're there for. =)
