Confused? - Dexamphetamine

Hello, I am new to the forum and a new diagnosis of ADD. I am 34 years old and have finally taken steps to control my ADD symptoms which mainly revolves around impulse control. (gambling, smoking cigarettes, self care -diet, hygiene, etc) and then there is the overall lack of focus and follow-through which has strained relationships and friendships.

I have been prescribed Dexamphetamine 5MG to take twice a day. I have also been prescribed Zoloft about a month earlier to deal with anxiety but the root cause of this anxiety was with my coping skillls with ADD.

I really am not feeling much of any difference after taking the Dexamphetamine tablets (Been taking then for 4 days) I think I may have a high tollerence for stimulants as I regularly drink red bull and this also has little to no effect.

Can anyone provide any insight with Dexamphetamine. Would I need to increase dosage (of course after Dr approval) I know that taking the pills wouldnt be a magic bullet but I expected at least something. It feels like there has been no effects and no side effects aside from a few nights where I woke up at odd hours.

Any information would be helpful for me being that I have never been on any medication at any point of my life until now.

I don't know, I'm having a similar problem right now. I'm taking 10mg of Adderall daily and that really hasn't been doing anything. I tried taking 10mg of Adderall at one time and it made me feel like I was going to jump out of my skin (best way to describe it). Usually you have to work with whoever prescribed you the drug and adjust the dose a little higher and higher until you reach a dose that works good without making you feel speedy.

I started dex a week ago starting with one 5mg a day and then after a week 2 of them.
I noticed a diff the first day.....the second day I was tired, then I've been a bit more alert until today when I felt like a zombie all day but I may have forgotten to take the pills this morning.
I've felt a difference but it isn't drastic and I think the docs start us off low and gradually build up to find out what dose we actually need.

Yes! The Dr's like to start you Low&Slow, to avoid any negative side effects, Like feeling "High" or Aggitated.
I've NEVER taken and Meds like this before, Rx or illicit, and was worried about getting "High"...I dodn't know if I have a High Tolerance to Stims....I do drink a lot of Coffee....but I have never felt "high" on these meds. PLUS...I think this class of Meds affects everyone differently, ie. some can take High doses of Dex while conversely, they could take only Low doses of Ritalin or even not tolerate it at all!

I started @ 5mg Spansule 2xDay, now I am taking a total of 55mg/Day. I take 20mg Spansules in AM, 20g Spansules @ Noon, Then 10mg Spansules + 5mg IR (Immediate Release) The 5mg IR is supposed to help with the "dropoff" effect of the meds. I am on Day 2 of adding the IR, hopefully this will help!

I keep a daily journal about how I'm feeling when starting Dex. That way i could tell my Dr something's that I KNOW I would have forgotten. YOU and your Dr will have to decide what dose is correct for you, or even if you need a "Combo" Dex Therapy Plan! Hope this Helps!!! Good Luck and take it from someone who knows.....Try to be Patient....it could take quite a while before you get it Right!! But Hopefully Not in your Case!!! ;-D

Question: are you still taking redbulls & caffeine during the day while your also on the Dex?

I know the calming benifits I experienced from the Dex disappeared when I added Redbull or caffeine. It made me a little hyper and agitated.

Just a thought, if your trying to calm yourself and having Dex & Redbull I'd imagine it won't be very calming to your Adhd. I'm of course a newbie here to Dex & ADHD so take that advice with my experience level but just a thought.
