Yet *Another* Thing That's Wrong With Me

Hi! I'm new---this is my second post. You can check out my into.

Anyway, I got diagnosed with ADD six weeks ago and I'm thinking it's yet *another* thing that's "wrong" with me.



I'm 37yo. Thru the years it's been:

• asthma
• depression
• anxiety
• polycystic ovarian disease
• post-traumatic stress disorder
• irritable bowel syndrome
• insulin resistance
• hypertension
• diabetes
• and *now* ADD

My doctor told me to just view ADD as a part of who I am, instead of something that is wrong with me. I'm trying to do that. The ADD diagnosis sure does explain a lot about my life.

Do you ever feel like your sum total is a running list of ailments?

Well, I think there is a distinct difference between a diagnosis of ADD and a diagnosis of depression or IBS or even hypertension. It's like the difference between a diagnosis of "broken leg" and of "chronic leg pain". Although it can be tricky, ADD is brain is a causitive problem that can be helped with medication, nutrition, exercise and therapy. Depression can be helped that way too, but it's difficult to say what is causing it. With ADD you have a pretty good idea.

It's likely too that ADD could be the cause of the depression and anxiety; at least it was for me. Have you read "Driven to Distraction" yet? It's a real eye opener. It might convince you that ADD is not just another thing that is wrong with you as an explanation for why you suffer some of these things.

Well, I guess that's one way to look at it. But another way to look at it is that maybe you've found the Unifying Theory behind all those other dx. I hope it makes life simpler for you!
