Adderall Tolerance...Help!!!

Hi. I am currently in law school, and I have fallen way behind in the past 10 days, which could lead to the end of my dream of being an attorney. I have taken diferent stimulants since I was about 16, so about 10 years. I have used adderall for about the past 5 of those years. It wasn't until about the last 8 months that I began taking it everyday, because I hate the way stimulants make me feel.

I am currently prescribed to 90 mg's of Adderall IR a day, but my meds have completely stopped working. I took a "vacation" this weekend and didn't take any stimulants Fri, Sat., or Sunday. I took my meds this morning and still nothing.

If that's the case, will switching to a ritalin-based med, like ritalin or focalin, be a good option? I mean, will I have a tolerance to those as well, and if so will be as strong as the one I have to Adderall? Between Ritalin and Focalin, which would you suggest? Is focalin weaker than ritalin? Also, what type of dosage would be an equivalent to say 50 MG's of adderall. I would imagine that if the tolerance wasn't as strong, I wouldn't need as many meds. The idea is to take as few meds as possible. I am very interested in the diference between focalin and ritalin and if focalin won't allow me to focus as much.

I am going to meet with my doc this morning, so I'm trying to figure out what the best solution is. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Thanks so much,
Spencer

Re: Adderall Tolerance...Help!!!

It kinda stopped working for me @ 30mg after 2 yrs and doc wanted me to switch. Since then, tried Vyvanse (nuthin) Concerta (nuthin) and Ritalin - VG results.

Re: Adderall Tolerance...Help!!!

For anyone who's interested, I went to the doc today and her prescribed me to Desoxyn. I had been wanting to try this med since I read all the wonderful reviews of it, but I was really disappointed. The only thing I could really tell was that it made me anxious. That's it. I didn't feel motivated. I still couldn't focus. Really odd. I will say that the "come down" was not as bad as most stimulants, but I do feel kind of cracked out. I take that back...I definitely feel cracked out. For example, I just took my dog on a walk and after coming inside the next thing I knew I was putting his leash in the pantry where we keep out food. I haven't ever done that in my life, and I find the fact that the only day I've ever done that in my life is the only day I've ever taken methamphetamine. But, as everyone knows, different meds affect different folks differently.

I'm taking the script of Desoxyn back to my Doc tomorrow so he can throw it away.

I am still curious if my Adderall tolerance will create a tolerance to Focalin, so if anyone has any knowledge or experience with that, I'm all ears.

Re: Adderall Tolerance...Help!!!

Focalin and Adderall are in different stimulant "families" so I wouldn't think one would affect the other.

Ari Tuckmans book for clinicians has a good chapter reviewing medications.

"Integrative Treatment for Adult ADD" It's not a self help book but meant for clinicians treating patients. I found it interesting and up to date.
