question about adderall

i just got prescribed adderall IR for ADD last week. Doctor said to take one 5mg in morning and another in the afternoon.....i have been taking 5mg twice daily as directed for past week now and i feel absolutely nothing is this normal for someone who is 24? I have never been on ADD medication before or used any drugs other than weed so I shouldnt have a tolerance...iam thinking i just need a stronger dosage...

5mg is a child sized dose. really small. it's a good starting point but not likely to make much of a difference in an adult. most likely when you go up to 10 or 15mg you'll start to feel something.

as indy said, 5mg of adderall IR is considered a low starting dose for adults, i'm surprised your doctor didn't allow you to titrate your adderall dosage up to a reasonable dosage for an adult. Most adults I know found their ideal doses to be anywhere from 10-50mg IR per dose, but results may vary as always.

that's a small dose ...seems the doc is moving with caution,since this is your first time .....give it some time

hey i'm on 30 mgir x3 day it really sucks having to be on such a high dose, sure i get a bit of relief but the crash is the pits

that's really low. i started like that and i was really upset because i was looking forward to doing and feeling better. i thought it must be that it was generic. got, the brand, got the XR. nothing. and i'm only 123 pounds. but, i've heard it really has to do with metabolism and tolerance for medication. my new doctor has me on a way higher dose. i would rather not post what it is because everyone is different and you may do fine at just a little higher dose. but, look at all the adderall threads on here. look at the dosages that mothers say their kids are on. i think you'll need to find an add specialist. that's what i did. they know their meds and dosages for this kind of disorder very well. good luck. i'd call your doc and ask for a new script.
