Slapping on tons of VASELINE to my face before a Adderall dose? (2stop moisture evap)

So whenever i take a dose of adderall (which i am prescribed for ADHD) I get very inflammed. And it seems like even if I apply lots of cream (lac hydrin, urea cream) I still get super dehydrated in the face, flush, inflammed, and warm.

I wonder if I should apply vaseline or aquaphor to my face to totally prevent moisture from evaporating off my face. note that i also have accutane damaged dried up glands. otherwise, my glands my produce oil to help keep more moisture from evaporating. hence why a lot of other people break out from accutane. but since i have diminished glands, i produce no oil on my face, even when using adderall.

is this a crazy and pointless idea? should lac hydrin cream also have that effect of preventing evaporation? for some reason, I feel like it doesnt do a good job DURING each dose when I get inflammed/blushed. I only take adderall after school when I am at home studying, so I can get away with slapping on the vaseline, since imjust in my bedroom anyway.

vaseline is a petroleum product or really any part of you.. not good for your face and certainly not hydrating. a hot red face has more to do with small blood vessel dialation underneath the skin than it does with the skin...

A more effective treatment, cold washcloth.. it reduces inflamation followed by a moisturizer.

Also a possibility .. there are gels (usually for feet but if it works) that have cooling properties .. could try those.

A couple of things, one you need to make sure you stay hydrated yourself. Its hard to do on adderall but you have to do it. I drink around 4-8+ 20oz bottles (I'll get one bottle of soda and then just keep refilling it with water). Additionally, vaseline CAN help if the goal is to prevent your skins natural moisture from evaporating (this is how chapsticks work), if you don't have enough to start with, it is not going to help.

Honestly, if it is as bad as it sounds, this is something you may want to discuss with your dermatologist he/she may have a better plan for you. I took accutane back in high school but didn't have any lasting effects, so you may want to talk with your derm.

Okay- I know how weird this is gonna sound...

Keep a cucumber in your fridge. Take your med and rub the cucumber all over the flushed parts of you. Apply a good moisturizer.

The cucumber will actually feed your skin and cool it at the same time. The moisturizer will help to lock moisture into your skin.

Worth a try.

this might not help at all or at least not right away, but it could help over time. when i first started stimulants my eyes got really dry and i was using water based eye-drops all the time. somebody suggested i start taking omega 3 fish oil supplements because they can improve general lubrication of mucus membranes in the body. now your facial skin isn't a mucus membrane, but taking a fish oil (omega 3) might lube you up! it can't really hurt.

Copperpenny, my daughter did the accutane thing TWO years ago and she still has dryness on her whole body, and itchy skin.
Do you take a multivitamin (NOT with your adderall of course, maybe with dinner)
Also drinking good drinks: V8, milk etc.

Vaseline feels great but it does not do much for your skin really, great for chappy feets and fingers but a good moisturizer would be helpful. I still remember my daughters dermatologist say "moisturize all the time". She was Chinese and the way she said it was funny.
Cetaphil lotion is fantastical. slather it on!

great idea!! I saw that on Dr OZ last week about putting cucumbers on your eyes... I am hawlin butt to the store to get a few!

I drink LOTS of water. I always carry my 25 ounce bottle and refill it. I CONSTANTLY moisturize. I am in school so I am home a lot and when Im home, I just LATHER on creams like crazy.

My issue is very extreme. I have tried fish oils -- done absolutely nothing for me. The latest supplement I am trying is MSM.

I just dont know what to do anymore :-( i never wanna leave the house. I have seen 3 dermatologists in the past year. The latest thing ive been prescribed are these creams. They help with the roughness, but my face is still dry as the desert and wrinkling like crazy. I am seeing my dermatologist again in a couple weeks. I just dont know what to do anymore!! Ive tried reading articles on pubmed and even emailing the authors for recommendations. There just doesn't seem to be anything out there for a condition like this.

Hey!

I took accutane about ten years ago, I remember the horrible dry, painful scaly, peeling skin. Before I started accutane I had super duper insane oily skin. Over time the oil has come back, Id say I have 30% overall oil reduction which is better than nothing.
