Sleeping

I am not sure where to put this. I just got back from my sleep doctor. for thoughts running throught the mind he said that typically it's more of an anxiety problem than anyting else. When we can't sllep we get frustrated. He did suggest cognitive behavorial therapy to help get rid of the thoughts.
If you can't sleep don't stay in bed. Turn the light on and read or do something that won't stimulate the mind.get regular exercise. I hope this helps somebody.

Re: Sleeping

Some mothings he told were to take a short nap like 15 to 20 minutes during the day rather an hour or two. @0 minute nap you should feel refreshed. Taking a longer nap you go into a deeper and feel more tired when you wake up.get up the same time everyday. this will help to se your biological clock

Re: Sleeping

I find myself slipping into nocturnal cycles easily, and especially if I sleep whenever I want.

Re: Sleeping

I need to get about 10 hours of sleep to feel refreshed in the morning, but getting to sleep can be a challenge.
I have to have complete darkness in the room and silence. I need my window slightly open and be warm at the same time.

I don't get my 10 hours of sleep on school days and feel sloppy/out of it the whole day. (I only get 7 hours of sleep and wake up at 5:30am)
Getting to sleep earlier is my #1 issue right now.

For years I've slept with a dim reading light on - so that when I can't get to sleep - or when I wake up in the middle of the night - I can pick up a book and read for awhile. I always figured I was still resting even if I wasn't sleeping.

Before that, when I slept with another person, I would get up and get on the computer. Turns out that's the worst thing you can do to get back to sleep. But otherwise I tossed and turned and neither of us got good sleep.

Then I started taking a Claritin every evening and sleeping through the night - and I've felt so much better. Unfortunately I think I'm developing a tolerance and I haven't slept so well the last week or so, or hopefully it's just because I've been sick and I'll be able to sleep well again when the virus has run it's course.

Re: Sleeping

By the way, Melatonin works on nights when I can't get to sleep on my own.
It's the chemical that regulates the circadian (sleeping) rhythm.

I buy it at my local Trader Joe's, but it's usually available at most grocery stores under the "Sleeping aid" section.

I'm strange that way. Decongestants and antihistimaines nearly always make me so sleepy I can't stay awake.

Re: Sleeping

I've personally tried just about everything to deal with my sleep problem. I usually have little to no problem falling a sleep I just lay there and fidget for a little while and I usually pass out after a while but every night I wake up about 4 hours into my sleep and can't go back to sleep at all.

I'm on Ambien right now and it kinda helps me, not stay asleep but It has let me fall asleep again after I've woken up about 4 hours in but that is only sometimes.

Prior to Ambien I tried Melatonin/Valerian combo, Benadryl, Nyquil, and Jack Daniels hoping to find something that can help me stay asleep and nothing worked.
