Watching anything Live and in person...

I don't know if anyone has commented on this or not, Didn't really know how to search for it. Anyhow one thing I've noticed about myself is that it is absolutely pointless for me to go to any type of live event. Why? because I get so distarcted by everything else except what I paid good money for good seats to see. I played basketball and got to go to the men's college games for free, I would always missed the good dunks and stuff because I was to busy looking around me, or distracted by the coach leaning over to speak complain to the assistant, or the cheerleaders, or the ref who didn't make it down the court. LOL

And this past week I went on a cruise and was watching a live show, I was too intrigued by how the blue lights were blinking in rythm and noticing the thin wire cables drop from the rigging. While everyone else is surprisesd by the singer rising into the air I was like, oh...that's what those were!

I'll get tickets to concerts and be so intrigued with the drummer or the guitar player, I miss the show.

Just wondering if that is common amongst us Active minded folks or if it was just me...

I am that way. But I've learned to just enjoy it. I watch the things that are interesting to me -- that may not be what anyone else there is watching!

I like orchestras, classical music, etc. I used to stress myself out trying to pay attention and keep focused on a concert. Then I learned a few years ago to just enjoy. I just let my mind wander and let the music happen. No effort to track it note by note.

My mom will leave a concert and be able to talk in detail about each movement, all of that. All I usually remember is, "violins are so pretty." But I do enjoy it!

Editing to add: I think it's a treat to be able to let my mind wander without trying to reign it in. A concert is a great place to do that, because everyone's attention is on the concert and you don't have to make an effort to stay engaged with a conversation or something. It's a break from trying to keep up with the way everyone else thinks. I remember bedtime was always a favorite part of the day for me as a kid -- I mean, I resisted and put it off, but once I was in bed I was happy -- because I could finally just let my mind unravel and not have to pay attention to anything, but just let my thoughts go where they wanted.

I can dig that, the point of some of these events are to let your mind unravel... why pressure myself to pay attention..lol Only when everyone is talking about a specific part of the performance. I pop up with is "that drummer looked real cool when the blue lights blinking on him...

Re: Watching anything Live and in person...

i'll experience more or less the same thing !!!
When i go to concerts or shows i just HAVE TO sit or stand on the front row.... cuz if there is anyone in front of me, i'll just be distracted (or more often annoyed) by what that person is doing and i won't be able to enjoy the show.... for example the other day i was at a concert and there was this drunk guy a couple of meters away from us and he kept "being annoying"... and i just CAN NOT focus on the concert anymore cuz i am to distracted or focused on that one person....

weird !!!

P.S. the other day i went to a piano concert as well, and right before the concert they told people the show would be recorded and they asked not to cough... so of course during 2 hours of the show i was only listening to people coughing and just "zapped" the concert.... highly annoying

Re: Watching anything Live and in person...

ha I always do that! I love when a concert is dark and comfortable so I can just let my mind wander. theater drives me nuts, I just look at the costumes and wonder what it is like, to be in a play and then picture them sitting around at a rehearsal reading their lines, in regular clothes.
I've just given up on musuems, I look at the people looking at the exhibits!

Re: Watching anything Live and in person...

While I do like many types of professional ballgames, I prefer to watch them on TV from my own home. I know what types of distractions may occur there. Also, if I need to "leave" early, then I'm already home. No worries about how to wiggle my way out of the said environment.

The same goes true for watching movies, I would rather rent videos and watch them at home -- usually alone, or with someone I'm very familiar with.

I do not like to be tied down at an "outside" activity or place unless it one that I'm exceedingly comfortable with. Needless to say, I am quite unbothered by doing the same thing over and over because each time it can still be somewhat different than the previous times.

However, I still do try out new things from time to time. I'm not rigid nor inflexible, just a creature of habit much like my cat companions.
