went to the dr. today adderall and celexa

He put me on 20mg adderall twice and day and 10 as need, I normally dont take a antidepressant but i have been having a lil depression lately so put me on celexa i think 10 mg (generic) is this a good idea???? has anyone had these 2 together and does anyone know if i should take the celexa in the morning or at night??? Please help

ok well i posted this yesterday...... taking about 40 mg adderall for add somewhat working..... but i get a little seasonal depression, or it could be the adderall idk but anyways he also prescribed 10 mg celexa (generic) is it safe to take and will someone please answer if they have the same combo. I dont want to add anymore meds. if its not needed and if its going to make things worse so can someone please give me some advice before i get anymore screwed up....

I tried Celexa for major depression earlier this year, a little more than a month after I began taking Adderall. It does seem that it's generally considered safe to take an SSRI like Celexa in combination with Adderall or other stimulants. I think you'll find that many people on the forum are on a similar combination.

The only real problem I had with the two together was extremely bad dry mouth whenever I took Adderall while on Celexa, something that never bothered me when either was in my system alone. And as far as I know you can take Celexa at whatever time of day you choose, so long as it's the same time every day. It caused me pretty significant drowsiness at first, I found that switching the dose to evening helped.

Of course, only you and your doctor can determine if an antidepressant might benefit you, and if doing so is worth 'adding more meds' - all I can tell you is that in my case it absolutely was the right decision. As to whether or not Celexa specifically will help you, unfortunately the only way to know is to try it. These medications effect everyone differently, and there's no way to discover ahead of time which, if any, will be the best for you personally.

Ultimately, Celexa didn't work well for me, and I switched to an SNRI that has, but that's just me - it is effective for many people. One thing to keep in mind is that it takes a number of weeks to see the benefits of SSRIs, while possibly having some initial side effects which (hopefully) lessen or disappear in the same time period. You may very well feel worse for a short time before you start to feel better. (It took five weeks, for me, from when I began the antidepressant which ended up working to when I started to feel a positive benefit.) It can be pretty miserable and frustrating to be patient through that initial period without knowing whether or not what you're trying will end up working at all. If an anti-depressant would benefit you though, then it truly is worth holding out long enough to find out.

I hope things work out. Also, just a thought, if you don't get a better reply here, you might try asking your question again in the medication forum specifically for depression. Perhaps someone would see it there who had better first-hand luck with Celexa and a stimulant.

why dont you try wellbutrin instead ? its an antidepressant and used off label for adhd. works same way as adderall but not as potent. helped me alot with motivation. it does not cause sexual dysfunctions or weight gain plus discontinuation is milder than SSRI (no serotonin symptoms).

I took celexa with adderall + found the combo to work well. SSRI's counter some of the side effects of adderall like slowed digestion and reduced circulation. However I found this combo to increase insomnia and be somewhat demotivating.

Taking the celexa in the morning helped with the insomnia side effect.

josh, he didnt want to put me on welbutrin because i have weight problems like i am 23 and weigh 90pds ( and have had a child) so he wanted to try something else first. I have taken wellbutrin and it worked...i just had sleep problems.

just my two cents...celexa was bad news for me. you should know relatively soon. Wellbutrin is much better. I agree with Josh.

I have tried some of the srri and snri meds in conjuntion and it will take some motivation out . Wellbutrin works well but may not address all your symptoms. Good luck

I've been on Celexa for a while now, and started Adderall about a month ago (I was on Ritalin before that). Celexa is kinda a downer so it works well in combination with stimulants. The increase in serotonin from taking celexa would make me a little sleepy, so I take it before bed and that works well. The Celexa also help to counter anxiety that can be caused by adderall or any other stimulant.
