Question Anyone switched from Adderall/Dex to Strattera?

I recently switched from Adderall to Dexedrine as it was sending my anxiety through the roof and giving me some crazy mood swings. The dex has been a little better but my doctor thought that Strattera might also be of benefit.

Has anyone made this switch and had any success with it? Any advice would be welcome before I see the doc.

Re: Anyone switched from Adderall/Dex to Strattera?

Ha, well this is probably not what you wanted to hear, but I recently quit Strattera because it gave me mood swings and anxiety! Don't let that put you off it though; as you know, different meds work differently for different people, etc., etc.

Strattera is a medication that has a nice kick in the beginning and works more in the background as time goes on. My advice would be, try to take it slow when you're increasing your dose, and don't feel like you need to be on the standard 80-120 mg if it's not for you. I did better at lower doses, personally.

More generally if you're looking for a non-stimulant, there's also Wellbutrin. That's what I switched to recently, and it's working quite well. Some psychiatrists (like mine) are more reluctant to prescribe it, but it wouldn't hurt to make the suggestion. Wellbutrin tends to have fewer side effects as well.

Re: Anyone switched from Adderall/Dex to Strattera?

My doctor prescribed dexedrine & strattera. Well he actually perfers wellbrutrin, but I had a bad reaction to that.

As a drug by itself, I don't really notice it had all that much of an effect. The two together seem to work pretty well.
