not the best year

well I debated and debated doing this thread. I do not want to come off as whiny, but this is about my year and why right now I am still struggling so much. Early in the year my wife's work place was sold off and she was laid off and unemployed for several months. she is working now but only as a temp in an office. the big down side to this is we lost our medical coverage and I had to go off of my medication. I have been seeing old habits resurface at work and at home. My moods are off the scale sometimes and (as a man I hate to admit this) I get teary eyed at the dumbest things. I just dont really know how to beable to hold it together untill I can once again afford to get meds. If anyone has suggestions I am listening. thank you.

Re: not the best year

It sounds like you've really gone through some difficult times.

What medication were you taking before you stopped altogether? There are plenty of ways to get medication that you can afford.

One idea is that many newer drugs under patent offer prescription assistance programs that cover the entire cost of the medication for a year for people with limited income and no insurance.

Other generics may be available for as little as 20 bucks a month.

And most areas have slide scale mental health centers that only require you to pay what you can afford to meet with a prescribing doctor.

Not sure what your income level is, but you could check and see if you can enroll in badger care plus core plan. It doesn't cover much, but it does cover meds and it's less exclusive than normal badger care.

Lunas, try First Call For Help either on the web or by dialing 211 from your touch tone phone. They are a low/no cost referral service funded by the United Way to connect people in need with people who need it. They will be able to connect you with providers that have sliding fee scales that are defined by the provider or group as opposed to the State.

In MN, we have MNCare which is insurance to an extent that can cover you until you can get back into the medical system. I understand that WI has something similar.

I don't recall what you were taking, but generic Adderall is fairly inexpensive and most other pharmaceutical companies have inside programs that will put name brand at low or no cost.

Feel free to PM me if there is additional information that you need. Getting you re-stabilized on meds is important to helping you manage through this stress.

Never forget. "Normal" is just a setting on the washing machine.
Do you really want to be a setting on the washing machine?
If you do, wouldn't you rather be the spin cycle?

Re: not the best year

a note about this one year later. I still have my job. My boss is to thank for that she really helped me thru some bad times and well looked the other way for some things. I am back on medication now and that is a relief, I still struggle with my moods but not as much.
