My month trial with adderall ir!

Well,my month of being on adderall ir 12.5 3/day is almost up.having been on both ritalin and vyvanse,i can compare some things.both vyvanse and ritalin wake me up and get me going mentalily.with adderall,its exactly the opposite.with each dose i feel a extreme tiredness coming on,but when it wears off,my mind"wakes up" like i was stoned all day or something.with adderall ir,i dont get no morning"kick" at all,like vyvanse and ritalin do.i dont need as much sleep on adderall,im wide awake at midnite,and again at 6am.both ritalin and vyvanse i am very sleepy at night,when it wears off i get really tired and want to go to bed.now between vyvanse and adderall,ive been researching,the only thing that makes scense is adderall also having the 25% amp is what is making me so tired and the med work backwards.makes me wonder if there is a 100%amp?that would really not be for me.so the dex is what is working for me the way it should be.so i figure go back to the vyvanse,and ask for a different booster,since my problem with vyvanse is that it wears off too soon.dex ir would be the ideal,but there seems to be a stigma with the med.ive heard ritalin is dangerous and weaker,so it probably wouldnt do much as a booster.so what other choice do i have?if the 25%amp makes me tired,whats a good booster to try?this is important,whatever i get will get me thru the holidays,any ideas?or i could just go back on 3/day ritalin ir,but having been on stronger meds,wondering if it will work or not?also,i am curious,is there a med with 100% amphetamines? That desolyn is methamphetamine,or is that the same?i dont want that,im just trying to educate myself with the differences.

Adderall,Vyvanse,and dex are all amphetamines.

Dex is dextroampetamine 100%

Vyvanse,once metabolized by your body,is 100% dex.

Adderall is 72% dextroamphetamine & 27% levoamphetamine.

Note that if your adderall is not made by Shire (XR) or Sandoz(IR),you may want to try those mfgs.

Ritalin is methylphenidate.
Concerta is the same,but long acting.

Thanks for the distinction between Vyvanse and adderall. I'm on 50mg of Vyvanse and for some reason it doesn't compare to the positive effects of 30mg of adderall. I heard that levoamphetamine doesn't have any proven theroputic properties other than racing heart and anxiety has been associated with it.

Do you know what 50mg of Vyvanse is comparable to 15mg Dexadraine?
I've become a complete introvert and socially disconnected on Vyvanse and want to try adderall for a month.

Hey,
Some people seem to like the Addy because of the 'kick' of the levo.
Not me...too much anxiety.Dex is better in my case.

The ratios between drugs are confusing.

The molecular ratio is different than the bioavailability ratio,and everyone gets them all mixed up and confused!

General rule 7.5dex=10Addy=15Vyv (dex is stronger by molecular,but brand and bioavailability is always disputed!) So,IMO,dex is stronger than Addy,but the doc will probably go with 5dex or 7.5dex to 10Addy.

For me (and I'm special), 40mg Addy was too jittery,and 20mg dex seems plenty for me.

addy x 1.5=Vyv,
so in practice,40mg Addy=70mg Vyv,because there is no 65mg Vyvanse.

Vyvanse makes you feel disconnected?
Why did you switch from Adderall?
If it was the adrenal/jittery thing,then maybe Concerta?

Hey Cpt,

First: Wow your alot of help.

Second: I told my doc 2months ago that I wanted the least amount of amps in my system when he diagnosed me with adhd. I heard that Vyvanse was new and safer, so I suggested that I try that instead.

It has helped me tremendously with finishing work, leg bouncing, talking/laughing over people, and doing anything task related.

However, I still have trouble looking at people when they talk to me and pay attention to what they are saying..its given me bad anxiety and I'm so sick of it. Where I used to feel uncomfortable around serious people, now I'm uncomfortable around kids and emotional people alike. Vyvanse makes me serious, and makes me unempathetic and relate to emotional people..including family.

Its just hard to give up all my emotions, and Adderall allows me to keep my empathy, relate to people, and still am able to handle priorities and focus.

I've tried ritalin and Concerta and they make me too angry, but serious angry..like theres no point in life but getting things done.

At this point I feel like an emotionless zombie that can't relate to human interaction. But my appointment is tom and have already written my problems out. You def have provided great concern and i thank you

I never was on it for more than a day at a time, like when I wanted to be productive and would get it from a friend. I didn't research any of my available options and went against the Adderall as a script bc i was hoping for something similar but less harmful. Vyvanse's marketing can have you pretty convinced that all your symptoms will vanish. All but paying attention. I guess I'll just tell him I've operated better on adderall, and I'd like to try it theraputically. Just kind of scared I'm giving up a good thing.

Everyone reacts differently,but I don't like the speediness of my dex IR(Barr),and share your disconnected feeling.
I am trying to find some GSK dexedrine spansules,which are a time release.I was shown an online site,so I might have to go that route.
Adderall IR (Sandoz) made me anxious,and raised my BP.
So far,with dex,no anxiety,and my BP actually went down. Weird.
I will want to try Vyvanse,too.

I'm guessing you have insurance?

Please do yourself a favor,and get the Shire brand of adderall XR. They are the original.
You will hear people tell you that the Shire and Teva XR are the same.They are not.
I have read that Shire supplies Teva with their Adderall,due to a legal agreement.
Maybe so. Still a different formula.

Oh...50mg of V...he will probably equate that to 20mg XR,so make sure you let him know it was weak,so he will choose 30mg/day. My rx was for 40mg/day.30mg is not much...don't feel guilty asking for that,if he doesn't offer it. IMO,of course! I want some play room. I found that 30mg was better for me than 40mg. Its trying to get the right dose,not abuse,or go over what you need.

See if he will give you an rx for 30@20mg,and 30@10mg.

You can do 10mg for a few days,check for side effects,then a single 20mg/day for a bit,then 20+10,if needed.

Let him know your 50mg Vyv seemed weak,and then mention your side effects.
Adderall would be the next logical choice.
I know you want to keep your dose as low as possible.
See if you can get 60@5mg,instead of 30@10mg.
It depends on laws in your state,and how comfortable you are with your doc.
This is what I would do...I'm sick of waiting three or four weeks to change doses. I would see what dose he suggests *first*. Let him pick it. (He'll pick 30mg)

Then express your desire to hopefully take less,and try to break up the doses. Just establish a max/day,first!

My doctor came through and prescribed me 30xr (like you said) and 10mg ir. The extended release is BARR and the ir is COREPHARMA. All equaling only 30$ as compared to Vyvanse at 125$. So we shall see how this goes. First time with rx.

Ir positives: Great relief from second guessing myself..I am hoping this never wears off.

Glad you're off to a good start.

If it was me I would try to get a feel for each type (ir/xr),and their perspective side effects.

If you feel too many side effects from either one,you can always try a different mfg as I mentioned.

The common negative remarks:

Barr XR:extra side effects,uneven dosing,more PNS (see wiki),and all over more jittery/too much coffee.

Corepharma IR: bigger 'kick' at first,then similar to the Barr.

You are just about in the same spot I'm in,on the quest to find the right help. I'm just throwing some things out there that I think *I* would want to know.
