Unhappy Adderall Comedown

Hi Everyone, I know it's probably been asked before and if so feel free to request to shut this thread down and direct me to a similar thread. I personally could not find anything that is similar to my situation:

I am prescribed 10mg adderall daily (split to 2 5mg doses) for my ADHD.

I do not take it daily because I'm really trying to avoid addiction so what I'll do is take it maybe 2-4 days a week with some time off between (3 days a week is usually the amount).

I am also prescribed Klonopin to ease the Adderall comedown and I take 1mg Klonopin PRN. The way I'll take it is roughly 3 hours after my last dose of the day so that to ease the comedown.

Here are my questions:

1. Is there a natural alternative to ease the comedown from Adderall? I dont know I just feel like taking a drug to come off of a different drug, I just feel like a robot that's being manipulated back and forth.

2. Although I tried not to get addicted I feel I am psychologically addicted and I don't like it. I feel like I can't be productive unless I take the meds. But then again before I was put on adderall I was never productive so maybe its not addiction just how I am. I'm rambling. The question is are there any natural things people have successfully done to help their ADHD/ADD a little?

Again, any advice will be appreciated! Thanks again everyone!

Re: Adderall Comedown

I started taking Adderal also 10 mg last week, after being on 7.5...I am also a recovering addict... As long as you take your meds as prescribed you should not feel bad about taking them...At least that is what I tel myself, because I self medicated with drugs and alcohol for such a long time now I probably have a quemical imbalance that only prescription drugs can ameliorate... Cheer up it could be worse... You could be addicted to other heavy stuff as I used to be addicted to...

Re: Adderall Comedown

What's the "comedown" that you refer to. For me, it's the Adderall "crash". After a couple days w/o Adderall, I am so sluggish that it's hard to get out of bed and do anything useful.

I usually take Saturday and Sunday without Adderall. I do OK for these days- other than experiencing increased ADHD crazineess (e.g. can't find keys when they were in my jacket pocket the whole time, etc). Another day or two without Adderall would result in the "crash".

During a longer holiday from work, e.g. spring break, I usually take multiple days off from Adderall. But I don't take the whole week. I'll take a couple of days then take an XR or even an IR on the 3rd day, then repeat.

Re: Adderall Comedown

greg: for me the comedown I am referring to is the crash after taking my last dose of the day. So I'll take 5mg in the morning and another 5 after lunch (as per my doctor's orders) and around 3 hours after the final dose I crash. I feel tired, unfocused, unmotivated, and actually get kind of depressed. I understand Adderall is a stimulant and what goes up must come down, and really this crash is inevitable. What I was hoping is to hear how other people help mitigate this crash either through supplements or dieting (I know it's all pseudoscience but I think there are things that can really help). My option is to take a klonopin around 3 hours after my final dose but I feel like taking a drug to help the comedown of another drug is not right... so that's why I'm asking for some advice

Re: Adderall Comedown

Do you take Ir or Xr? If you take Ir perhaps you could try switching to Xr, it has a much smoother incline and decline, coming off of Ir was really noticeable, when it wore off you knew it. I find that with the Xr I sometimes don't even notice the transitions.

Re: Adderall Comedown

My god. Reading this responses in here make me feel like I must be one really screwed up kid. Im hanging out at 30MG XR and 20MG IR. I dont think that at the doses you are at you really need to worry about addictions. I would suggest you take the medicine all the time and let you body adjust and get used to it. You have to understand that Adderall is going to change your perception on things. That would be the medicine working. I take mine mon-fri, and used to skip sat & sun, however since going to the higher dose, I do have to take at least the IR, or I kinda get tweaky by sunday. I have to agree that your thoughts that your "addicted" are prolly just that. Thoughts. You will know when you have a physical addiction. I would embrace the meds and roll with it, and ignore the stereotype associated with taking them.

Re: Adderall Comedown

I solved rebound by keeping 5 mg in reserve. I took 20 mg IR in the morning and 15 mg at 2p with that 5 mg in reserve in case of rebound. Generally that worked well for me.

Never forget. "Normal" is just a setting on the washing machine.
Do you really want to be a setting on the washing machine?
If you do, wouldn't you rather be the spin cycle?

Re: Adderall Comedown

Make sure you eat as you crash.
Take a good dose of Magnesium as the medication wears off.
Take a B 50 complex.
The ethnobotanical Kratom really helps for the come down.
Beta Blockers. (Clonidine, Nadolol)

Re: Adderall Comedown

How long have you been on Adderall? I've titrated from 10mg to 30mg, and at each portion I've experienced come-downs. However, when I went back to 10mg, I didn't experience the come-down anymore, (took about 3 weeks)

Re: Adderall Comedown

i've now been on both xr and ir and have found that i crash the same on both of them. i think it does help to take it a bit more frequently than you are taking it. i take 15 mg 2x/day now, and i have been taking it 5-6 days a week and it seems like i have less of a crash than i did when i took it 4 days a week. if i do start to crash, i try to drink something caffeinated just to ease it a little bit and give me a little energy again, either that or drink a redbull. not sure if that was the answer you were looking for, hope i helped at least a bit!
