Adderall IR & XR shortages for 2010 through 2012

Hello, I have not been able to get my latest prescription for Adderall XR filled. I think it's for the generic (can't tell from the writing on the prescription, but it was generic last time). Three different pharmacies did not have enough for a 30-day supply. One pharmacist told me that it is not being produced by the manufacturer at the moment and is back-ordered.

Anyone know anything about this situation? I guess I need to get my prescription changed, but I don't know what medications are affected by this. (not sure the doctor does either)

I have had no problem getting the name brand, Shire Adderall XR reguarly. Just got a refill ten days ago. I really do not believe there is any "shortage."

I never had a problem with the name brand either. I got switched to the generic last prescription, and got it filled. This is the first time I've run into a problem.

I just talked to another pharmacy and got the same story.. He told me that both the brand and generic Adderall XR are unavailable and have been back-ordered. Another pharmacist told me that the manufacturer isn't currently producing it.

I'm surprised that nobody else on this board has posted that they've run into this.

I got the last 18 in the pharmacy had to go back a few days later for the other 42, pharmacist said that they were having a hard time getting them. Amphetamine salts aren't the only medications that pharmacies aren't getting.

I got my prescription on the 5th......the pharmacy filled half.

It took them until last friday to get their generic adderrall in.

...I was on EDGE...they were down to the hour I needed the other half

I called all the pharmacies here in flagler beach fla...

I called all the pharmacies in daytona.....no one had it!
.......called palm coast......no cigar.

NO ONE in 3 towns near me HAD IT!!

...the last 2 times I filled my script....they gave me half barr brand...
cotten in the middle.....and half corapharma...(barr is easier to spell)

The pharmacies all said the same thing....

.................."we can't get it from the manufacturer"

Is it because this is Flora -DUH ?!

......or is anyone else experiancing anything like this?

just wondering.

....maybe I'll look up barr and see if it says the lab workers are picketing.

Suze, have you checked Costco? I used to refill on or about the same day each month and they ordered it in. I would guess that you could set something similar up with your regular pharmacy. I believe that Costco only gets Barr.

I'm having trouble getting a prescription filled for 60 count of 20 mg Adderall XR. The Target pharmacy we use didn't have 60 in stock and say they can't get any more. We dropped off the Rx almost 2 weeks ago, and it expires 21 days from the date it was written, so I'm getting worried.

This is in Texas, btw. If this a problem across the country?

I'm having the same problem at our Target pharmacy here in Texas. I don't really want to go elsewhere, because DD is also taking Intuniv and Abilify. I want all the prescriptions at the same place so it will be easier for the pharmacist, or the system, to notice a problem with interactions, etc.

thank you!.....I work for target...and their meds are outrageously expensive!
...even with my "team member 10% discount"

CVS was more in the range...
....but, winn dixie beats CVS if you have winn dixie in texas.

*IF* you have to go somewhere else, anyway.

Yes you are that kind of smart!

Makes sense. I want to say that Teva is also producing AdderallXR.

Same logic applies as far as ordering in advance. The pharmacist where ever you prefer to go should be able to see consistency in the meds you use and order ahead. My partner is on a scary expensive med right now- not for ADHD but costs us $3600 a month- and his scrip is for a 30 day cycle. I call the pharmacy a day or two in advance of his run out date and they have it ready for me in 24 hours. They don't keep it in stock but will get it in for me when we need it.

Wal-Mart was another good alternative for meds. They would get my Adderall in when I showed up- I often had a scrip pre-dated by a day or two. Dropping it off early just gave them a chance to order in what they needed.

Hospitals are often the first to get meds. I have used hospital pharmacies in a pinch. It is more work but they always have what I need.

Suzanne, that was December of 2008 . . . surely there's something going on besides that? Or maybe Teva has shut down Barr manufacturing sites? I looked on Cafepharma to see if there was any discussion about this among drug company sales reps, but didn't find anything.

I have had big problems trying to get brand name adderall over the last several years, I take just over the max amount allowed by law to be mailed for a 3 month supply. There is no pharmacy anywhere near me that carries it, the only luck I have had in the past is pharmacies near a college campus. Finnally my pharmacist put my adderall on a monthly special order (which was great until she went on vacation). This worked well for awhile, except for the times when my doctor forgot to put no substituations on the script. Then my Health Plan required a doctors Pre-Authorization for Adderall which took a few days. So I decided to switch to generic then the Health Plan required preauthirization for that!!

Anyway I feel like a criminal everytime a go to fill my script: ID checks, if you try to fill it before 30 days the CVS police tackle you, the pharmacist has to literally check the safe to make sure there is enough to satisy your drug request.

yes, i think im gonna track down the distributor and personally show him the rath he is causing the patients who need this medication. i take 180mg a day and probably need more. i have been perscribed adderall since 1998 to treat uncontrollable behavior issues that ritalin could no longer manage. when people with my condition do not get there medication society suffers. they better get their act together soon!
