Just prescribe Adderall too

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering . . . she prescribed 10 mg of Adderall XR. Can I split this into 2 doses to try 5 mg for a couple of days first? I'm lilke 99.9% positive I have heard of others here doing that. But my memory could be wrong. Hmmmm, imagine that!

I asked the pharmacist and she said that it would screw up the time release. Tomorrow will be my first time taking it.

Call me a wimp but with my first experience with Strattera . . . taking 40 mg and having to stop taking it and then start at a much lower dose cuz of the effects on my heart and BP, I'm a bit nervous.

I'm also taking 300 mg Wellbutrin XL and Lexapro 10 mg.

Thanks!

. . . Kim

To the best of my knowledge since it's in a capsule form you can't "split" the doses because of the time release as the pharmacist mentioned. I know where you're coming from with the BP/heart issues but I just started taking 10MG as needed per day and am doing MUCH better and I believe with the XR/time release aspect you'll experience with what you'll be taking the release will be slower and more controlled so if I were in your shoes I wouldn't worry as much, if you have major concerns still I'd suggest talking with your doctor prior to making any major changes. Sorry I don't have more help to offer but keep fighting the good fight

Thanks for the encouragement! I am lucky in that at work we have a clinic so I can go have my BP checked later today to make sure all is well. I'm sure I'll be fine, I'm just a wimp when taking something for the first time.

My aderall is probably not the slow release - I was advised both by pharmacist and both by shrink to break it (20mg).

I belive the non slow release gives me more control.

I started out with 5mg, upped today (after 3 days) to 10 mg (for 5 days..). But those are SHRINK and PHARMACIST orders.

As for BP I have no knowledge to share or advice to give.

As for me, I took the first dose on a weekend, so any major side effects wouldn't occur in public. But so far so good.

Good luck.

Well, my first day was great! I was totally nervous over nothing about taking this stuff! Oh well. Blame it on my anxiety disorder.

But really, I got so much done yesterday at work and I even got some stuff organized! I was impressed.

No appetite loss for the most part. At small breakfast, good lunch and a decent dinner. So I don't think that will be an issue. It takes a lot to kill my appetite. Luckily I don't have a weight problem. Drank a lot of water. No problem sleeping.

So . . . so far so good!

Congrats man....I'm moving along pretty much at the same rate as yourself with it unfortunately I'm just trying to deal with the insomnia issue I'm facing but prior to the meds I often had trouble falling asleep so I'm not even sure if being on Adderall has effected my sleeping patterns directly or not. Luckily I'll be getting a medication to help me sleep tomorrow if all goes as planned so I'm happy about that Keep up the good work though!
