At what point should someone should go to a mental health facility??

Just wondering at what point should someone should go to a mental health facility? At the point to where they are currently functional? or when some "trigger" or incident at work causes alarm? (well at that point theres no return..hehe)

when they cannot make sound decisions regarding own health; if/when the person is a danger to self/others; when you don't feel like you can manage life or yourself.

After one checks their mental health coverage? You cannot assume that there is a bed for you if you wish to voluntarily commit yourself to a state institution.

High threshold for involuntary commitment. I know, I have had to make the call.
