Ritalin Dossage

I am confused about how many mgs a person can safetly take of ritalin. I take 20mg & so does my husband. My psychst. said I could try 30 if I wanted to, but I said not for this perscription, bcause my hubby's MD said that anything over 20 is questionable. He is about 5'10 & weighs 190 & Im 5'4" & weigh about 150.

His MD said that ritalin in high dosses can cause seizures & other problems? So Im fairly confused here????

*for the first time in the 4yrs he's been taking his a few days ago he didn't feel good. He said he felt like a sort of popping in his head & then he had a headache. He didn't feel good for a few days. Anybody experience this. & no I couldn't even get him to call his MD so I was concerned about the whole experience.

thanx

Lots of people take more than 20mg of Ritalin at a time - I was taking 30mg 4 times a day when I was taking it. Typical dosages are from .5mg to 1mg per Kg per day, although people do take higher doses than that. At 190 lbs, 1mg/kg/day is about 90mg. Many people don't need to take this much to get the effect they need - it depends very much on the person, and more is not always better - Ritalin will hurt your attention and focus if you take too much.
With regards to seizures, I don't think ritalin is particulary bad for this, certainly not at the dosages given for ADHD, but there could well be things about your husband's medical history that make him more prone to seizures, so I wouldn't want to second guess the Dr. He should mention the unusual side effects to his Dr too - it could be something simple - like a sinus condition - but it's best to be safe and mention it.
Good luck,
Greg
