Fire in My Head

This constant gnawing at my head
It threatens my state of mind
I want to get rid of this dread
A burning desire to not leave a mark
I’m burdened, else I feel blind
It haunts my conscience when instead
I wish I could leave it only a spark
It’s not like I left someone dead

But still I sit here with this unnecessary thought
That drives itself until I’m bought
That I’ve caused a great sin
Even when I haven’t broken the skin
These thoughts haunt me within
Until my mind is worn thin

I writhe when I think I haven’t been shown
What hurts when I don’t provide it
Why must I suffer to provide my own
When I can’t get the same in return
Even when I’m treated like ****
And I try to throw a stone
It’s me who shows the concern
Till I make the pain my own

But still I sit here with this unnecessary thought
