Re: Should children with adhd be sat at the front of the class

I got moved to the front of the class where the teacher could get me back on task quickly when I got distracted.Which I guess was quite a bit back then LOL.Thru out the years I got quite adept at daydreaming, looking around room and when teacher would call on me I'd be able to scan and find the paragraph and zone back in before teacher figured out I wasnt paying attention.Dont ask how I did that a few times I was like pausing and teacher was like are you paying attention?next time i catch you if your out of place Im gonna send you to ISS :O Oh no.

Re: Should children with adhd be sat at the front of the class

This is advice from my childs' Special Ed teacher for kids/teens with ADHD

"The child with ADHD should be placed in the second row (or if you use a U shape seating arrangement – about ½ way along the side of the U)."

She said that this is because they will see what is happening in the row in front of them and so will not be tempted to turn around to see what is happening behind them which they would do if placed in the first row.

Hope this helps

Re: Should children with adhd be sat at the front of the class

Alternatively, have something like this installed in the classroom

http://www.califone.com/products/pairsysbcs.php

Makes it easier for the kids to hear the teacher and filter out the background noise.

All this is exactly what happened last year during the class in year 2, she would constantly be asking the person sitting next to her what to do and had to told to start work or keep being told to stay on task.
Dunno about your daughter but in my experience, I only pay attention in the front of the class, but my teachers can't stand having me there due to my fidgeting.

Re: Should children with adhd be sat at the front of the class

For my daughter, sitting in the front of the classroom drove her crazy, she could NOT ignore all the noises and distractions behind her. I think it is an individual thing, there is no one way that will work for every child.

Re: Should children with adhd be sat at the front of the class

Hi my dd is always at the frontmuch to her disgust and we are still waiting for a dx. She's only allowed to sit right at the front in front of teacher so
She can be kept an eye on else her mind wanders she fidgets annoys people leaves her seat and is a nuisance!
