Fiddling Injuries??
My fiddling/hyperactivity has acutally caused me to injure myself... AGAIN!
After my meds wear off that need for motion comes back... in addition to my hair twiddling, I am a champion toe wiggler. The other night I was wiggling my toes so much that I somehow got the nail from the second one stuck into the nail wall of the other. I panicked and dug a piece of skin out of my big toe. Now it seems to have started a little infection, eewwww! I don't think the adderall is covering enough of the hyperactivity for me. ![]()

Re: Fiddling Injuries??
Even with adderall I feel that energy boiling beneath my feet, except I can control it better and it doesn't require so much mental energy with a constant internal authoritarian nag to keep myself in line.
When the adderall wears off, it can be a scary time for every one. So yes, I've definitely injured myself, and exactly in the manner you have mentioned (toe nails getting caught). I had to remove a lip ring because I fiddled it so much two of my teeth started pushing apart. I removed any earrings I had in my ears due to the same issue of needing to keep pulling or twisting. When I think too hard, I chew -- hopefully on gum -- initially it will be a beneficial movement, yet it quickly devolves into an unmanageable distraction leading to a series of pits and scars inside my mouth from chomping off cheek flesh. Twisting my eye brow hair till there is nearly vanilla ice bald spot bands. I will play and fidget with say a pen, until I feel an arthritic pang in my thumb -- yet, still can't find a good place to stop clicking and will continue to do it. I have fidgeted enough to smack the corner of cupboards into my face, all because someone needing to tell me something for 3 seconds was just too long to wait before I reached for what I needed... Oh and possibly one of my most embarrassing instances of fidgeting to excess... is I used to (and still do but resist) enjoy putting a cup over my chin and lower lip then making a vacuum so the cup will stay on my chin. I was watching tv when I was in 6th grade or so, was fiddling with my glass, and apparently I made a very good vacuum and left it there for WAY too long (30+ min???) and I ended up with a blue/black chin for nearly 2 weeks... And if that wasn't embarrassing enough, I did it again in 7th grade... and that's why I never put cups around my chin now. etc, etc... |

Re: Fiddling Injuries??
I had a similar thing with an earring in the cartilage of my ear... I finally had to take it out.

Re: Fiddling Injuries??
you konw how you can take a paperback and hold it at the binding with one hand and with the other shuffle the pages really fast to make that short 'fffffffffft' sound? you can also give yourself a nasty paper cut doing that.
chewing on a pen thoughtlessly can result in an unfortunate ink burst, which is harder to scrub off your face than you'd think... ![]() the most painful thing i've done, though not lately, is passing time by putting one hand on a surface, with fingers/thumb streched out as wide as possible, and then holding a pencil in the other and trying to stab the spaces in between fingers/thumb as quickly as possible...back and forth without pause. the faster i went the harder i'd jab the pencil--always sharpened, too...which wasn't bright inevitably i'd miss and end up stabbing a finger full force. it hurts like hell and never seems to elicit any sympathy from others.

Re: Fiddling Injuries??
wow thats some sadomasochistic behavior there.I got retarded and clumsy back in 6th grade and somehow my pencil got stuck in the corner of my pinkey and broke off deep in my skin,to this day the lead/graphite mark is still inside my skin at the joint where it bends.

Re: Fiddling Injuries??
I'm not sure we should even broach the topic of accidental injuries....

Re: Fiddling Injuries??
I fidget mostly when I am on a med holiday, and even when I have been on my meds for awhile which is why I must take breaks, or holidays every so often. For me it seems when I do the medication becomes more effecitive, which may just be me, but I find if I take the medicaiton on schedule for example 6 months without a break vs. a break or two worked in, then such things arent so much of an issue, minus the excessive sleep and fidgets when I do take a break.
