Finally, I have medication!!! :]
After graduating high school almost three years ago, adjusting to college wasn't easy for me. In retrospect, I made my rookie mistakes. I didn't understand the value of money which led to some ill-advised financial decisions. I had poor time-management skills and very little self-control. On top of all that, I was maladjusted to the social world.
I was convinced by my parents and some psychologists that my laziness was to blame for all that had went wrong in my first semester of college. This led to self-blame and I tried to "fix" that and I found out the hard way that it couldn't be. I stressed out about my finances, my employment, my impulsiveness, my productivity, the future. That's how I handled it. I was stuck in a rut. I wanted to be a better worker, make better financial decisions, and not be lazy. But I didn't know how or what to do and it seemed that I could never get started. It started to feel more like a curse - this mental prison with an army of ninja-warrior security guards patrolling the grounds. I knew I had mental problems. Psychologists had hinted and had even confidently diagnosed me with depression, anxiety, schizophrenic tendencies, and even BPD. After reading the list of symptoms associated with ADHD, I always thought that there was a strong possibility that I might be ADHD. My parents kept insisting I was lazy. So after 2 years of battling self-destructive thoughts, terrible fears, non-supportive parents, financial hurdles, I was finally diagnosed to be ADHD and I am finally able to see a psychiatrist regularly and have just received my first serious prescription intended to treat my ADHD not my depression or anxiety. My doctor wrote me a prescription for 20mg of Vyvanse. As soon as I left, I made a mad dash to the pharmacy. I was so anxious - was this the answer? I took my first dose. Five to ten minutes after, I notice the difference. Today was Day 4 on my new medication. So far, so good. I feel focused. I feel like I have substantially more energy. And I don't feel anywhere near as impulsive. The only negative thing I've noticed is a moderate stomach cramp but that could be because of my pre-existing acid reflux or it might have something to do with the fact that I don't feel as hungry and I don't get hungry as fast. My psychiatrist wants me to try 20mg, 40mg, and 60mg for a week each to see what works best. I'm extremely excited that I have a doctor I am confident in working with me to help me manage my ADHD. P.S. Just out of curiosity, I wonder if it is safe to use marijuana while taking Vyvanse. Thanks to all of the people who have helped me on my crazy journey! ![]() |

When you take the drug, do you only notice focus and motivation from it?

marijuana is more than likley "safe" to take with it but I beleive the executive function decrease caused by marijuana will negate the posative effects of the medication. In adition you may notice Anxiety when mixing the 2.

Re: Finally, I have medication!!! :]
ok this is my specialty except i was in your position and still somewhat am last year which was my first year of college. i always knew i had add but never used medication til i reached college which i believe was the right decision but made too late. On the marijuana as well i have some expertise advice for you. I wouldnt say its safe to smoke on any stimulant but if you know your limits and have a tolerance go ahead, i do it all the time but only when im at home. Smoking will probably give you anxiety if you do it socially and trust me be careful with it. I have a pretty strong tolerance for both marijuana and vyvanse so i know what needs to be fixed when, and what i shouldnt do. The higher dose of vyvanse you take the more you will feel the THC when ingested because they are pretty radical changes in terms of thinking. I have depression and weed has always helped to an extent, but i dont suggest you use both at the same time if any of your schizophrenic diagnosis' were correct. I have seen people on meds smoke after the meds where off and it can mess with them really bad dont do it if you cant handle it trust me. I also can say that im a smoker have been of weed and cigs since way before i started meds and i still had to go through a bit of rough times and changes when starting medication, you shouldnt smoke too much at first, i guarantee you will realize some pretty enlightening things about yourself and past only on the vyvanse because you will be clearly thinking how you should have been all along, thats what happened with me anyway. IT also can take a strong toll on your lungs doing both at the same time so watch out.

Pretty much. Heightened senses as well. I'm more aware and more organized in terms of thinking.
