Just switched from Adderall to Concerta
I've been on Adderall(36mg XR+15mg SR) since I was dx'd about four months ago. I found it OK, but latterly, other than an 'awake' feeling, I didn't feel I was getting any benefits out of it. When my hair started falling out, My Doc decided it would be best to switch to Concerta.
I started a couple of weeks ago on 54mg, but to be honest, I don't feel any effects. With Adderall, I could feel it kick in and wear off, but with Concerta, nothing. I'm out of my routine at the moment, so I'm unable to say for certain if it helps with my ADD symptoms. I'm still procrastinating and unable to properly manage my time in a big way, but not any worse than when I was on Adderall. Do I need a stronger dose, or is Concerta not right for me? Should I try something other than stimulants altogether? Wellbutrin or Strattera maybe? |

It's hard to say if the dose is too low for you. It's possible that the dose is too high, most people on the board have said that when their dose was too high it almost had a reverse effect ( the meds didn't do what they were supposed to and didn't improve symptoms).
I started on Concerta 1 week ago, and I have noticed what you have described as well.(I am on 18 mg) I have not noticed any change except for maybe feeling a little more awake, but it's nothing more than the equivalent of a cup of coffee. I still continue with procrastionation & completing tasks. I also don't feel the drug kick in or when it wears off. The only thing I have noticed is that my mind doesn't race as much, and I don't "tune out" as much in a conversation. Maybe you should experiment with dosing a little more, and see if you can find a happy medium. If you continue to see no improvements, then maybe try a non-stimulant drug.(I can't offer any advice on non-stimulants because I have never taken them) Everyone's mind works differently, so only you can decide what's working and what's not. Good luck, and I hope you find something that works well for you. It may take some time, but that is better than continuing something that has no effect. ![]() |
