Confused with - you mean behaviors can look similar to a non clinician?

yeh -
Autism talks about having poor social skills.
ADHD trait
e.g failing at social interaction due to loss of interest in conversation etc
Lack of eye contact due to ...unable to concentrate

I'd suppose so. What really matters is that a clinician doesn't confuse the two. Do you have suspicions about yourself or something?

Re: Can Autism(not AS) be confused with ADHD?

To be honest I dunno - Ive had the aspergers (test AQ test) and im normal. I got IQ tested when I was 8 which turned out to be 124 which is above average . I think it seems that I get bored of people and lose interest.

Kind Regards
Albert Einstein

An autism diagnosis would probably appear more severe than an Asperger's diagnosis, and the symptoms are on the same behavioral spectrum. Also, a large number of people on the autistic spectrum also fit the criteria for ADHD.

Is there any particular reason you think you might be autistic instead of ADHD?

Re: Can Autism(not AS) be confused with ADHD?

Ok a life story in one-
First I do have a close set of friends.
But I seem to fail at small talk I just lose interest and want to get to the objective of a conversation however you need small talk to build relationships .

And I suppose the other thing is I come across quite domineering interrupting etc . Which again is a barrier.
I eye contact is actually difficult to due to the concentration factor. T
he IQ pun I suppose relates to whether im just an eccentric ?
But on face value you'd think I was the coolest cat in the world!

Re: Can Autism(not AS) be confused with ADHD?

lol....

Autistic people are usually ignorant of their inability to notice social queues. They just simply act the way they do because they don't know better...not because of a biproduct of just inattention, like you're implying.

An autistic example:

You're playing tag as a child. You're it. A little girl who is also playing, fell on the ground and stubbed her knee. She started crying. You had plenty of time to notice she was in pain, but you still run over, Tag her as "it" and run away smiling...wondering why she's not chasing after you.

That's much more autistic then ADHD.

you live in london, 5imon? maybe you could talk to a counselor or psychologist who may refer you for a diagnosis, whatever that ends up being - if any.

lol That sounds soo sinister !
"stilll run over, Tag her as "it" and run away smiling...wondering why she's not chasing after you."
Isn't there varying severities of autism?

That's my guess.

I'm sure some people have autistic like tendencies, but it's much more noticeable than ADHD imo.
