I often wonder if dogs and cats remember their former owners (if they've had any) and if they miss them or like them better than their current owners. And why my dogs get excited to see me when I come in from getting the mail. Do they really have no concept of time?

I think they accept the world as it comes to them, and not really judge it, or expect anything. They are capable of emotions, like missing somebody, they change their behaviour. And they can have favourites, but they can change as well. Cats and dogs also like habits, habits tend to make life easier.

And my cat has an excellent concept of time. Time to wake me... Time to get food from me... Time to go to sleep...
But he doesn't care about a calendar, or daylight-savings time.
"There is no day off, wake up now and feed me!" and "Today is like yesterday [recursive]"
