Hi Everyone,

Im new to this forum. Im looking for peoples thoughts

Background
Age: 30
Diagnosed with ADHD at 4YO
Started on Dexedrine at 6yo (1 morning 1 at lunch) through school.
Stoped at 13yo (own decision, embarrassed about taking medication)

To Date

I saw daveddd's thread on the definition of mental illness being invalidating for him, and I was all set to add my own rant about how much I hate the term "mentally ill" but saw that the thrust of his thread was something different, so didn't want to derail it.

Adhd parents: Does ADHD affect your ability to parent?

There have been a few incidents recently. Last week, I didn't register my little toddler grabbing a vit bottle and playing with it. When I finally realized that's a bad idea she had poured it all over herself and was licking it off her arm (it turned out to be fine. The max that she could have had was still below the toxic level according to the medical advice we got.)

Jury duty?

Do you disclose your ADD dx when you’re screened for jury duty? I went one other time the day before my dx and they question you in a room full of people, so it’s not like you can tell anyone privately.

The definition of mental illness is somewhat invalidating to me

So i dont want to challenge the dsm or anything like that. I just want to say how i feel

So mental illness is defined societally by impairment

I was very impaired in all areas

Now not so much. Mindfulness helped me catch the behaviors that impaired me according to the dsm
